Whittle, Graner Earn MAC Field Hockey Players of the Week

CLEVELAND -- Ohio Field hockey senior forward Katelyn Whittle and graduate student goalkeeper Nele Graner were named the Mid-American Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, the league announced today (Sept. 6). 

Whittle (Glenwood, Md.) led the Bobcats offensively this past week, helping Ohio go 2-0 and open the season 3-0 for the first time since 2011. Whittle was stellar, scoring three goals and adding one assist for seven total points in two games. Overall she registered six shots with four on goal for a .500 shot percentage and a .667 shots on goal percentage. In Ohio's first game against Central Michigan on Friday, Whittle was unstoppable, scoring three goals in Ohio's 5-2 victory. Whittle's first goal tied the game at 1-1 in the first quarter, before scoring again in the second and third quarters to help seal the win. Then on Sunday against Davidson, Whittle registered one shot and one shot on goal in the 1-0 victory.

Graner (Bonn, Germany) led Ohio on the defensive end this past week. Overall, Graner went 2-0, allowing two goals and made 12 saves in 17 shots faced. She played all 120 minutes and had one shut out and .857 save percentage. In the first game of the weekend against CMU, Graner played all 60 minutes, allowing two goals and made three saves in six shots faced in the 5-2 win. Then on Sunday, Graner was stellar, recording her first shutout of the season in the 1-0 victory over Davidson. Graner did not allow a goal in 60 minutes, while making nine saves and facing 11 total shots.

Whittle, Graner and the rest of the Bobcats are back in action on Sunday, Sept. 11 when they head to Towson. First touch is set for Noon ET.
