Ohio Head Coach Tim Albin
Opening Statement:
"I said last week, and I will say it again. One thing for certain is that this team has got fight. I challenged them at halftime. I just thought we had done a couple things out of character in the first half that needed to get addressed with the group. They took it well and our guys kept fighting. You can talk special teams, huge play, Kurtis, huge play. Unbelievable game at home with another outstanding crowd here on campus."
On how satisfied he is with the offense and their efficiency this week:
"I thought we were on schedule for the most part of the entire game. The first two drives were operated beautifully. We overcame some penalties on the field goal drive. I think we had a couple of holdings maybe. Coach Rudolph had to shuffle some guys around as far as personnel and he had some really good adjustments to what they're doing. They did some things differently on defense but were able to keep pressure on their offense.
On Sieh Bangura and Julian Ross:
"Monday will be better, and I can give you better detail. Sieh is going to be day-to-day and Julian is out of the boot and doing exercises. We should be close."
On Nolan McCormick stepping up this game:
"I mentioned him last week. He was a warrior in the second half against Iowa State. He got his first career start tonight. It was solid. I thought he was really physical inside. Curtis got the ball to him on check downs. There's a lot of good things. I couldn't be happier for him.
Tyler Toledo got in the game for the first time all year and got tested. You saw
Jake Neatherton and he gave us some more speed out there at the running backs position."
On what he thought of the performance from defense:
"The glass is half full right now. They exposed us on some things, and we talked about it at halftime. We've got to be better in that area. The last two drives…. I thought great adjustments. Torri Cox was at safety and had a couple big plays for the third straight week. He is just really playing at a high level.
Justin Birchette did some good things out there despite what he's going on (a bruise). He showed some tremendous toughness today. Those two guys are our best cover guys. I thought Coach Nowinsky getting Torri at safety, particularly those two drives, was the difference."
On the defense stepping up on the plays within the last minute of the game:
"They're a team of over believers. These guys just don't quit, and I could not be prouder. I told the team right here in this room with all the doors open and I challenged them on Wednesday.
How we are operating off the field is best I've ever been around. Our fishbowl is as clean and clear as it possibly can be. I could not be prouder of a group so far. We've got to take that and get it on the field and clean some things up. It's got to start showing how we play the game. Our guys are starting to see the total picture of not just doing their job but understanding why. You know, particularly with Torri, for him to go play safety. He's not just playing corner. He's understanding the total picture and I'm excited about that."
On how much confidence he has in Kurtis Rourke when calling plays:
"A lot because he did it quite a few times today. He's doing those things at much quicker pace and very high level right now with his development from last year getting to play the whole season and where he is now. I will sleep very well tonight."
Redshirt junior quarterback Kurtis Rourke
On what went well in his passing game:
"We just had a lot of good concepts going and everyone was open. We executed well on offense. We knew we were going to have to score a lot. So, we didn't take our foot off the gas, and we kept going. People were open."
On how it feels after breaking the single game passing record since 1983:
"It feels much better that we won. But it's a great honor. Like I said, we won, and we can celebrate that. Everything to these guys [
Jacoby Jones and
Tyler Foster] as well, because they were part of the win and without them, I wouldn't have the record, so it means a lot."
On how much trust Kurtis had in the play drawn up for Jacoby to score the last touchdown:
"We didn't run the play. I told him [Jacoby] to go score. But I knew he [Coach
Scott Isphording] wanted you [
Jacoby Jones] on the ball. I knew that you [Jacoby] could catch the ball and I knew I could put it there. We were on the same page, and we went out there [on the field] and won the game"
On maintaining energy:
"We were confident in ourselves and the fact that our offense can score points and move the ball. You [Tyler] had some stops, but there are going to be some games that they're [their opponent] going to challenge us. We must be able to go out on the field and put up a lot of points. The defense gets stops in the games where our offensive is struggling."
Junior Wide Receiver Jacoby Jones
On how they were able to bounce back after struggling offensively the past two weeks:
"Extra security [keeping possession of the ball] is what we were working on all week. The game plan was to go in [to the game] and do everything that we've been working on since day two and three of fall camp. So, when we got on the field, we went back to the basics and made it work."
On how confident Jacoby was on catching the ball for the last Ohio touchdown:
"I had 10 out of 10 confidence. I've been playing this game since I was five. I've run fade balls [routes] with Kurtis since I've been here. So, I went out on the field and executed and that's what we did."
Redshirt Junior Tight End Tyler Foster
On maintaining energy:
"We prepare for those situations all the time. In practice, we do clock seven on sevens drills to get the ball down the field especially in time crunch situations. We executed how we didn't execute in practice, and it worked."
On how important it is to go into conference with a 2-2 record:
"It's tremendously important. We now have some momentum going into conference play. That's one thing that makes or breaks our team. It's how confident we are in ourselves. We always say, "Ohio doesn't beat Ohio" and I think we're heading the right direction."
Fordham Head Coach Joe Conlin:
On the game:
"Obviously a heartbreaking game, we didn't execute well enough down the stretch. Too many penalties called by the MAC officiating crew. Credit to Ohio they were able to put plays together at the end to score one more point than we had.
On the offensive bright spots:
Tim [DeMorat] was great, Fotis [Kokosioulis] was great, and Dequece [Carter] was great. I thought all the wide receivers played hard. I thought we ran the ball okay, you know as effectively as we needed to down the stretch, the boys played hard.
On Positives from today's game:
"We scored a lot of points on the road and had an opportunity to win, and if you learn from it there is no loss. But if you let it beat you down and you let it stay with you, you know you've got to move on. We must move on tomorrow; we have to turn the page and we have to continue to get after it."
