CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Senior point guard Cece Hooks has been named MAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, the fourth consecutive season Hooks has earned Defensive Player of the Year recognition, and is the only player in MAC women's basketball history to win the award four times in a career. Hooks was also named First-Team All-MAC and to the MAC All-Defensive Team, while redshirt-junior Erica Johnson earned Third-Team All-MAC recognition, and senior Gabby Burris was named to the Honorable Mention All-MAC team.
Hooks set multiple records this season, including both the Ohio and Mid-American Conference career scoring record, and eclipsed 2,800 career points by the end of the regular season. She has scored 20+ points in 22 of Ohio's 27 games, including a season-high 35 against Akron in late February. She has more than doubled her career double-doubles, logging 10 of them so far and upping her career total to 19 double-doubles. Her per-game rebounding average of 8.3 is the highest of her career, and she has scored more than 600 points in a single season for the third time in her time as a Bobcat.
Johnson has scored over 400 points this season, the third time she's done that in her career. This year is the second consecutive season of being selected to the Third-Team All-MAC, and is her fourth overall All-MAC selection after being named to both the All-Freshman team and Third-Team All-MAC after the 2018-19 season. She scored a season-high 32 points against Richmond in December, a game in which she put in a career-best 15 of 16 performance from the free throw line. She's made her second-most three-pointers in a single season, having finished the regular season with 65 made from beyond the arc.
Burris has had a career-best season from a scoring perspective, averaging 14.1 points per game, the most in a single season during her time in Athens. She's also grabbing a career-high 6.3 rebounds per game, and has made a career-high 57 three-pointers at a 34% rate. From the free throw line, the senior is shooting 85.1%, a career-best, and on the defensive end, Burris has her most blocks in a single season (24) and her second-most steals in a single season (33). She set a new career-high in points when she poured in 26 points on the road against Bowling Green (Feb. 19), courtesy of 10 of 15 shooting from the field, and also set a career-high in rebounds twice this season when she grabbed 12 boards in games against Bowling Green (Jan. 22) and Western Michigan (Feb. 12).
Ohio begins postseason play as the No. 8 seed in the MAC Tournament, and will play No. 1 seed Toledo in the first quarterfinal game on Wednesday, March 9. Tip-off is scheduled for 11 a.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
