Ohio Track & Field Finds Success at Recent Invitationals

Raleigh, N.C./Cedarville, Ohio -- The Ohio track & field team brings home success after competing in the Raleigh Relays (March 24-26) and Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open (March 26) this past week.
After three days of competition, Ohio left the Raleigh Relays with many new records and personal bests. Red-shirt junior Taniah Stephens (Erie, Pa.) led the Bobcats in the short distance events, competing in the 200m and 400m. Stephens ran a 25.65 in the 200m and 58.45 in the 400m. Senior Stephanie Pierce (Fairborn, Ohio) led Ohio in the 1500m, clocking a 4:31.07 to record the fifth fastest time in school history. Pierce was followed by junior Alyssa Christian (Newark, Ohio) who recorded a season-best of 4:40.62. Additionally, fifth year Hailey Bowes (Arlington Heights, Ill.) ran a personal-best of 35:25.62 in the 10000m. In the field events, graduate student Taylor Strnad (Brook Park, Ohio) tied for 16th with a jump of 1.65m in the high jump. Meanwhile, senior Autumn Mohan (Chillicothe, Ohio) led the throwers in the shot put, discus, and hammer. Mohan threw a 12.70m in the shot put, a 42.68m in the discus, and a 47.47m in the hammer. Freshman Millie Ryan (Vincent, Ohio) followed with a 11.85m in the shot put and a 38.07m in the discus, while senior Rachel Simpson (Port Clinton, Ohio) recorded a 41.64m in the discus and 39.68m in the hammer.
Additionally, a few Bobcats traveled to Cedarville, Ohio where they were met with grueling conditions on Saturday (March 26). Ohio was met with snow and a wind chill in the low 20's upon its arrival to the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open. Despite the weather, graduate student Jessie Hartman (Lebanon, Ohio) led five Bobcats in the 1500m, placing sixth and clocking a time of 4:59.91. Hartman was followed by freshman Kelsi Harris (5:02.57), sophomore Kenna Loveless (5:02.90), freshman Sarah Liederbach (5:07.38), redshirt junior Lauren Parrell (5:19.42), and senior Jocelyn Knauss (5:32.63). Junior Carina Weaver (Lexington, Ohio) ran a 18:12.77 in the 5000m, securing a fourth-place finish.
Up next, Ohio will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to compete in the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational on April 1 and 2.
