Ohio Football Represented By 16 Student-Athletes on 2021 Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND— The Ohio football team was represented by 16 student-athletes on the 2021 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, as announced by the league office today.Â
Â
The following Bobcats earned recognition from the conference for their work both on the field and in the classroom: redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Christophe Atkinson (Leesburg, Va.), redshirt senior wide receiver James Bostic (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), redshirt junior wide receiver Philip Cole (Columbus, Ohio), redshirt junior defensive lineman Denzel Daxon (Nassau, Bahamas), redshirt junior linebacker Bryce Houston (Lewis Center, Ohio), redshirt senior kicker Stephen Johnson (Arlington, Texas), redshirt sophomore linebacker Kyle Kelly (Newport, Ky.), redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Aiden Malenchek, redshirt senior running back Jake Neatherton (Miamisburg, Ohio), redshirt junior offensive lineman Bryce Ramer (Beaver, Pa.), redshirt sophomore quarterback Kurtis Rourke (Oakville, Ontario, Canada), redshirt fifth year offensive lineman Nick Sink (Fishers, Ind.), redshirt freshman linebacker Dylan Stevens (Powell, Ohio), redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Parker Titsworth (Wexford, Pa.), redshirt sophomore placekicker/punter Tristian Vandenberg (Buffalo, N.Y.) and redshirt fifth year safety Alex Wolff (Chillicothe, Ohio).Â

A total of 218 student-athletes across MAC football were named to this year's squad.Â

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contents for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.Â
Â
Houston (finance and international business major) earned Academic All-MAC Team selection for the third year in a row. Kelly (business pre-law major), Ramer (accounting/finance major), Rourke (communication studies major), Sink (MS in management), Titsworth (finance major), Vandenberg (finance major) and Wolff (coaching education major) all garnered honors for the second-straight year. Neatherton (exercise physiology pre-physical therapy major) was also named Academic All-MAC for the second time in his career, earning the title in 2018 as well. Atkinson (exercise physiology major), Bostic (undecided), Cole (marketing major), Daxon (physical activity and sport coaching major), Johnson (MS in management), Malenchek (engineering technology and management major) and Stevens (entrepreneurship major) all earned recognition for the first time in their careers.Â
