AKRON, Ohio – The Ohio swimming and diving team returned to action this evening (Jan. 14), falling 241-101 to Akron.

The event was broken into three sessions, with swimmers limited to competing in one event per session and three events max.

"We got a lot out of the meet tonight.," head coach Mason Norman said. "We swam a different meet format than a traditional dual meet which allowed us to get in some good racing and mix things up. We have been fortunate to stay healthy and remain focused on the team and what we can control. Moral is at an all-time high, we are having fun being together and that's most important at this time of the season."

In sessions one, junior McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio) won the 200-yard IM, finishing in 2:05.07. In the 200-fly, defending MAC Swimmer of the Week Gabrielle Brust (Granville, Ohio) took first in the event, touching in at 2:03.13, while junior Madeline Marks (Bentonville, Ark.) finished in third with a time of 2:04.38.

In the 100-yard backstroke, senior Athena Aravantinou (North Bethesda, Md.) placed third, finishing the race in 57.04. Sophomore Caroline Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa.) wrapped up the 50-yard freestyle in third, finishing the race in 23.91.

In session two, sophomore Olivia Morlok (Columbus, Ind.) wrapped up the 600-free in second (6:16.67), while sophomore Peyton Farrell (Beavercreek, Ohio) finished the 100-fly in 57.66. Brust was back in the 50-free, placing third with a time of 26.40.

Junior Emma Fortman (Madeira, Ohio) placed first in the 200-yard free (1:54.51), while teammate Dunigan placed third with a time of 1:56.59.

The third session opened with the 800-yard freestyle, with sophomore Morgan Croaning (Carmel, Ind.) placing second in 8:28.25. Brust was back for her third event of the day in the 100-yard IM, finishing second with a time of 58.92. Meanwhile, Grau placed third in the event with a time of 59.11.

Junior Kendra Sheehan (Columbus, Ohio) finished third in the 50-fly (26.07), while Aravantinou picked up a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing the race in 2:02.40.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Jan. 29 when they host Bowling Green and Cleveland State for a tri-meet inside the Ohio University Aquatics Center. The meet is set to start at Noon.
