PAW PRINTS: The Week Ahead in Ohio Athletics

ATHENS, Ohio -- 
The soccer team makes its regular-season debut at Chessa Field this week, while volleyball and field hockey open their regular seasons on the road. See what else is happening for Ohio athletics this week in this edition of Paw Prints.

SOCCER

The Ohio Bobcats soccer team (1-0) started the season off on the right foot, as they shut out VMI last Thursday, Aug. 19, 1-0. With the first game of the 2021 campaign under their belt, the Bobcats return to Athens for two games. The home opener will be against Marshall on Aug. 26, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon's game at Chessa Field will see Ohio take on JMU, with first touch scheduled for 1 p.m. Stay tuned for streaming information.

Ohio and Marshall last met in 2019, when the Bobcats won 4-1 on the road. The match against JMU will be the first all-time between the two schools.

The Ohio field hockey team opens the 2021 season when it travels to Louisville, Ky. to play two games against No. 5 Louisville (Aug. 27 at 3 p.m.) and New Hampshire (Aug. 28 at 2 p.m.). 

Ohio and Louisville last played in 2017, with the Cardinals winning 6-0.

Ohio volleyball also starts their regular season this week as Geoff Carlston makes his return as head coach, following a 3-1 victory over Duquesne in an exhibition last Saturday, Aug. 21.

The Bobcats will participate in the Sports Imports Classic, hosted by Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio. The first match, against No. 4 Washington, is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 27. The Bobcats will then take on Northern Kentucky at 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 28. Neither match will be streamed, however fans will be able to follow live stats. 

Washington is 2-0 against Ohio, with the last match being played in 2006. The Huskies won, 3-0. Ohio will take on Northern Kentucky for the first time since 1984.
