ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio field hockey team (6-4) hosted its Senior Day on Sunday (Oct. 4), breaking program records in a 14-0 win over Mercyhurst (1-9) in a nonconference matchup.

The 14 goals is a program record for Ohio, beating the previous record of nine, which was set against Miami in 2001.

Overall, Ohio scored 14 goals on 31 shots on goal, while holding Mercyhurst to zero shots on the day.

Individually, senior forward Natalie LaFleur (Fredericksburg, Va) had six shots and one goal, while sophomore forward Tiana Nhamoinesu (Thirsk, North Yorkshire) had one goal and one assist. Junior back Deborah James (Hertfordshire, England) had two goals and two assists, and freshman midfielder Maddie Hill (Perth, Australia) had her first goal as a Bobcat. Sophomore forward Karley DuCoin (Turnersville, NJ) had one goal on five shots while senior midfielder Emily Beitzel (Hershey, Pa) had two assists.

Sophomore back Ava Florence (Louisville, Ky) had two goals on three shots while junior forward Mia Scheulen (St. Louis, Mo) had two assists. Sophomore midfielder Tori Cisney (Cleona, Pa) had a hat trick, scoring three goals on five shots. Junior forward Addy Basile (Lewes, Del) had one goal and sophomore forward Adi Geer (Newport, Pa) had two goals.

In goal, graduate goalkeeper Gwen Hershberger (Harrison City, Pa) got the start on Senior Day and logged the shutout in 60 minutes of action.

In the first period, Florence got the scoring started early, getting a goal just two minutes into the game with an assist from Nhamoinesu.

Ohio kept the pressure on, and got a second goal just five minutes later, this one coming from Cisney with an assist from Scheulen as both players kept their great play rolling. After a yellow card on Scheulen, Mercyhurst held the Bobcats scoreless for the rest of the period, and the Bobcats went into the second period with a 2-0 lead.

Cisney got back on the board in the second period, scoring a little after four minutes into the period with the assist coming from Scheulen again.

The Lakers goalie made some saves following the second goal from Cisney, but the Ohio attack was relentless and got another goal, this one coming off the stick of Geer with assists from James and Beitzel.

Ohio went into halftime up 4-0, but the break didn't slow them down as James scored just seconds into the third period. Geer scored the sixth goal of the day for Ohio, and her second of the day after five minutes had passed in the third period.

The Bobcats got back on the board one more time in the third period, this time the goal from DuCoin unassisted. That goal sent Ohio into the fourth period with a 7-0 lead.

The fourth period saw the Bobcats double their score, as they fired in seven goals in the final period, with Florence, James, Nhamoinesu, Hill, Basile, Cisney and LaFleur all recording at least one goal.

Up next, Ohio goes on the road to compete in the 'Battle of the Bricks' against rival Miami (OH). The game is set to start at 3 p.m. ET on Friday, Oct. 9 and will be streamed on Miami's website.
