KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Ohio baseball team (28-25, 19-21 MAC) saw its 2021 season end with a 6-3 setback to host Western Michigan (24-26, 23-17 MAC) on Sunday (May 30) at Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field.
The Broncos broke a three-all tie by plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, then pushed across another in the sixth to make it a three-run game, which proved to be the winning margin.
Three Bobcats accounted for six of Ohio's seven hits, with senior designated hitter Aaron Levy (Cincinnati, Ohio), redshirt senior left fielder Devonte Washington (Twinsburg, Ohio) and redshirt junior right fielder Michael Richardson (Cambridge, Md.) each accounting for a pair of hits. Levy collected Ohio's lone extra-base hit of the day with a double in the fifth.
Ohio utilized the services of four pitchers, with junior right-hander Braxton Kelly (Ulysses, Ky.), sophomore southpaw Jacob Tate (Louisville, Tenn.), junior righty Colin Sells (Lancaster, Ohio) and senior lefty Brett Manis (Port Huron, Mich.) combining to strike out 10.
Under the leadership of interim head coach Craig Moore, Ohio finished with a winning record for the first time since 2017.
