AKRON, Ohio -- The Ohio baseball team (24-18, 15-14 MAC) dropped the opener of its four-game Mid-American Conference series to Akron (12-31, 6-27 MAC) on Friday (May 14).
The Bobcats got on the scoreboard first when redshirt senior shortstop Joe Weisenseel (Strongsville, Ohio) hit a home run to left field to lead off the top of the third inning.
The Zips took command of the contest in the home half of the sixth, however, plating four runs on five hits.
Ohio got a run back in the ninth when senior right fielder Sebastian Fabik (Lebanon, Ohio) hit a leadoff home run to left center, but that's as close as the Bobcats could get as the ninth-inning rally fell short.
Ohio and Akron are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday (May 16), with the first of two seven-inning games set to get underway at noon ET.
