BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The No. 3-seeded Ohio volleyball team (12-8, 12-8 MAC) saw its season come to an end with a 3-1 (25-19, 25-16, 19-25, 25-16) loss to No. 2-seeded Western Michigan (18-4, 18-4 MAC) in the 2020-21 Mid-American Conference Championship Semifinals on Friday (April 2) at the Stroh Center.
Sophomore opposite Emily Margolies (Galena, Ohio) led the Bobcats with 13 kills while redshirt freshman middle blocker Caitlin O'Farrell (Suwanee, Ga.) hit .407 with 11 kills. She also totaled a match-high five total blocks (one block solo, four block assists) and recorded seven digs. In her final match as a Bobcat, senior setter Vera Giacomazzi (San Vendemiano, Italy) achieved a double-double with a team-high 41 assists and compiled 19 digs. She also registered four block assists. Freshman defensive specialist/libero Sam Steele (Omaha, Neb.) logged a match-high 28 digs.
The Bobcats fell behind in the match 2-0, after the Broncos posted wins of 25-19 and 25-16 in the first two sets. Ohio bounced back with a six-point victory to force a fourth set, but Western Michigan clinched its spot in the conference title match with another nine-point triumph in the fourth.
Ohio finished the season with 12 wins, closing out the regular season with six victories in its final seven regular season matches to clinch the conference's No. 3 seed in the tournament.
