ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio field hockey team (3-8, 3-8 MAC) fell to Kent State (7-3, 5-3 MAC), 3-2, on Friday (April 16) afternoon at Pruitt Field.
The Bobcats played well in the first half. Sophomore midfielder Katelyn Whittle (Glenwood, Md.) scored her third goal of the season in the 18th minute. She was assisted by senior Jillian Shive (Lebanon, Ohio), who earned her second assist of the year.
Kent State answered quickly out of halftime. The Golden Flashes scored three times in the thtird quarter to gain a two-goal lead over the Bobcats. Helena Cambra Soler was the first to score to even the game, followed by Sydney Washburn and Luisa Knapp.
Ohio came back with its own goal from freshman forward Tasmin Williams' (Surrey, United Kingdom) first career goal in the 43rd minute, who was assisted by Whittle.
"Tas does these beautiful passing combos with her teammates in practice all the time," head coach Ali Johnstone said. "I keep telling her, 'Just shoot some, you're going to get it.' She's a really good playmaker, and it's so nice to see her because she works her tail off."
Junior goalkeeper Nele Graner (Bonn, Germany) took the start in goal for the Bobcats. She made five saves and faced ten total shots. Kent State also only capitalized on one of its six penalty corner attempts against Graner in goal.
The Bobcats are back in action on Saturday (April 17) to wrap up the series against Kent State. The game is set to start at 3:30 p.m. ET.
