OXFORD, Ohio – The Ohio soccer team (2-5, 2-5 MAC) returned to action on Thursday (April 1), falling to Miami (4-3, 4-3 MAC), 2-1, on the road at Bobby Kraming Field.
Miami opened the scoring in the second minute on a goal by junior forward Kristina DeMarco. The Bobcats battled back, tying the game in the 36th minute when freshman midfielder Carsyn Prigge (Lexington, Ky.) scored with an assist by senior defender Paige Knorr. (Cincinnati, Ohio).
Miami struck with the game-winning goal in the 54th minute when junior midfielder Desiree Grubbs scored to give the RedHawks a 2-1 lead. The Bobcats kept pushing and generating chances, yet were unable to capitalize, falling 2-1.
Ohio outshot Miami, 16-9, however, the RedHawks recorded seven shots on goal, compared to the Bobcats' five. Ohio also had the advantage in corner kicks, taking eight compared to the five from Miami.
Prigge led Ohio with a goal, five shots and two shots on goal. Meanwhile, junior midfielder Haley Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio) came off the bench and generated three chances for the Bobcats.
In goal, junior goalkeeper Sam Wexell (Irwin, Pa.) allowed two goals and made five saves on nine shots faced in her 90 minutes in net. For the RedHawks, starting keeper junior Izzie Vaccari, allowed one goal and made four saves while facing 16 shots.
Up next, the Bobcats are back on the road on Sunday, April 4 when Ohio heads to Akron, Ohio to take on the Zips. First touch is set for 4 p.m. The Bobcats defeated Akron, 3-0, earlier this season in Athens.
