Biography
2022: Made 13 appearances, including eight starts during the 2022 season. Wexell totaled 42 saves on the year and had a save percentage of 0.750. She had a career high nine saves in a shutout win against Miami. Wexell was named to the CSC Academic All-District and Academic All-MAC teams for her combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
2021: Wexell, started every game in the 2021 season and led the team in minutes, playing all but 11 minutes total. In total she played nineteen games for the Bobcats this season with 57 saves, and a .770 saving percentage. Wexell was also named First Team ALL-MAC and earned MAC Defensive Player of the Week twice during the season. She logged the second-most shutouts in a season with 10, just one shy of tying the school record of 11, set back in 1998.
2020*: Played in five games for the Bobcats while starting four… In 449 minutes, allowed eight goals and made 16 saves, while earning one win… Recorded a 1.41 goals against average and a .667 save percentage… Posted a clean sheet on Ap. 8 against Kent State with two saves… Made five saves, giving up one goal on April 11 against Buffalo… Named Academic All-MAC.
2019: Played in four games for the Bobcats while starting one…In 191 minutes, allowed three goals and made three saves, while earning one win…Recorded a 1.41 goals against average and a .500 save percentage…in MAC play, made one appearance and allowed two goals in 16 minutes…Made first career appearance on Aug. 25 against Northern Kentucky where she did not allow a goal in 45 minutes, picking up the victory…Made her first career start on Aug. 30 against Cleveland State, allowing one goal and making three saves in 109:20 minutes in the 2-1 overtime victory…Played 20 minutes at Georgetown on Sept. 20 and did not allow a goal…Made her lone conference appearance on Oct. 24 at Miami, allowing two goals in the 5-2 victory.
2018: Did not play.
Prior to Ohio: Captained Norwin High School to the Pennsylvania big-school state championship and No. 7 national ranking (Top Drawer Soccer) in 2017. Norwin posted four shutouts in four state playoff games to give Sam a school-record 53 shutouts in her career. She was named first-team All-State keeper as a senior that season.
Personal: Born on November 11, 1999, Sam is the daughter of Jim and Lydia Wexell. She is interested in journalism, photography and the Special Olympics.
