ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio field hockey team (2-3, 2-3 MAC) defeated Central Michigan (3-3, 1-2 MAC), 3-1 in the home opener on Friday (March 26) at Pruitt Field.
Senior midfielder Jillian Shive (Lebanon, Ohio) got the ball rolling for the Bobcats, scoring her first goal off of sophomore midfielder Sienna Sakich (Powell, Ohio) in the sixth minute. The next goal came in the 34th minute from sophomore midfielder Katelyn Whittle, who was assisted by senior midfielder Emma Spinetto (Louisville, Ky.). Shive was able to put the Bobcats up 3-0 in the 52nd minute with her second goal of the game.
Kate Biglin scored for the Chippewas in the 59th minute but it was not enough for Central Michigan to come out on top.
The goal from Whittle as well as the assists from Sakich and Spinetto were their first of the season. Additionally, junior goalkeeper Nele Graner (Bonn, Germany) had three saves for the night against the Chippewas.
The Bobcats will return to Pruitt Field tomorrow (March 27) to face Central Michigan once again. First touch is set for 7 p.m.
