ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio baseball team (7-7, 1-3 MAC) suffered an 11-5 setback to Bowling Green (5-9, 3-1 MAC) on Monday (March 22) at Bob Wren Stadium to close out its first four-game Mid-American Conference series of the 2021 season.
The Falcons plated six runs in the top of the first inning, with four of them coming on a grand slam, then pushed across another run in the third to take an early 7-0 advantage over the Bobcats.
Junior right-hander Braxton Kelly (Ulysses, Ky.) steadied the waters for Ohio with 5.1 strong innings of relief. He struck out six while permitting one earned run on two walks.
Ohio mounted a comeback attempt in the home half of the seventh as it plated three runs, with redshirt junior left fielder Trevor Lukkes (Tustin, Calif.) scoring on a wild pitch and redshirt junior second baseman Michael Richardson (Cambridge, Md.) and redshirt junior designated hitter Spencer Harbert (Middletown, Del.) delivering RBI singles to make it a four-run game.
Unfortunately for the Bobcats, the Falcons answered with a four-run eighth to put the contest out of reach.
Lukkes, Harbert and graduate student third baseman Trevor Hafner (Perrysburg, Ohio) each recorded multi-hit efforts to lead the Bobcats at the plate.
Ohio is set to play host to a four-game MAC set against Central Michigan at Bob Wren Stadium this weekend, beginning with a 6 p.m. ET matchup on Friday (March 26).
