CHARLOTTE – The Ohio women's basketball team (15-9, 11-6 MAC) took down Fordham (12-6, 8-2 A10) in the first round of the consolation bracket of the Women's National Invitation Tournament, 81-64, at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, North Carolina. Ohio went wire-to-wire in the win, and pushed the lead to 22 with 5:55 left in the game.
Senior guard Cece Hooks (Dayton, Ohio) led Ohio with 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting. Hooks added nine rebounds, four assists and four steals in 34 minutes on the floor. Hooks was a game-high +18 on the floor.
Senior forward Gabby Burris (Baltimore, Ohio) added 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 3-of-5 from the three-point line. Redshirt junior guard Erica Johnson (Mansfield, Ohio) had 19 points and on 7-of-14 shooting.
Freshman guard Kendall Hale (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored her first basket of her career and finished with a career-high seven points after going 3-of-4 from the field with one three-pointer made. K. Hale added four rebounds.
Redshirt junior guard Jasmine Hale (Cincinnati, Ohio) added five points, while senior guard Hunter Rogan (Urbana, Ohio) knocked down a three.
Overall, 11 players appeared on the court for Ohio and the Bobcats shot 31-of-58 (53.4 percent), the second-best percentage as a team this season. OU was 10-of-26 (38.5 percent) from the three-point line. The Bobcats held Fordham to 21-of-63. (33.3 percent) shooting and 10-of-32 (31.3 percent) from the three-point line.
Ohio forced 15 Fordham turnovers and had 12 steals. Hooks led with four swipes and Burris had three. The Bobcats were outrebounded by the Ras, 40-36, but redshirt junior guard Caitlyn Kroll (Bridgeport, Ohio) recorded a game-high 11 boards.
Ohio will face either Charlotte or UMass in the consolation final on Monday at 4 p.m. at the Bojangles Coliseum, to close out the 2020-21 season.
