ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio baseball team (7-4, 1-0 MAC) opened Mid-American Conference play with a 2-1 win over Bowling Green (2-9, 0-1 MAC) on Saturday (March 20) at Bob Wren Stadium.
Trailing 1-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Bobcats plated a pair of runs to overtake the Falcons begin conference play with a victory. Redshirt junior second baseman Michael Richardson (Cambridge, Md.) delivered the go-ahead RBI single that scored junior catcher Mason Minzey (Grand Blanc, Mich.), who had singled earlier in the frame.
Senior right-handed pitcher Edward Kutt IV (Westlake, Calif.) picked up the win on the mound, improving to 2-0 on the season. He fanned three while allowing one hit over two scoreless innings. He relieved junior southpaw starting pitcher Joe Rock (Aliquippa, Pa.), who stuck out eight over six innings of work while permitting one unearned run on two hits. Senior left-handed pitcher Brett Manis (Port Huron, Mich.) notched his first save of the year, tossing a scoreless ninth inning in which he struck out one and gave up one hit.
Ohio and Bowling Green are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Sunday (March 21) beginning at 1 p.m. ET at The Wren. The Bobcats and Falcons will play two seven-inning games.
