OXFORD, Ohio -- The Ohio field hockey team (0-1, 0-1 MAC) suffered a 3-0 setback to Miami (3-0, 1-0 MAC) in its 2021 spring season opener on Friday (March 12) at the Miami Field Hockey Complex.

Goals in the seventh and 51st minutes by freshman Claudia Negrete Garcia bookended a goal in the 37th minute by senior Allie Grace Joyner to push the RedHawks to victory.

The Bobcats were outshot by RedHawks, 17-9, and Miami held an 11-4 advantage in corner opportunities.

Senior midfielder Jillian Shive (Lebanon, Ohio) led Ohio with two shots on goal. Junior midfielder Ashley Wilbur (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore midfielder Katelyn Whittle (Glenwood, Md.) also logged two shots apiece.

Junior goalkeeper Nele Graner (Bonn, Germany) faced 17 shots and made six saves for the Bobcats over 60 minutes.

Ohio and Miami are scheduled to square off again on Saturday (March 13) at 3:30 p.m. ET.
