
Ohio Wrestling Heads to New Jersey for 2021 MAC Wrestling Championships

ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio wrestling team is set to compete in the 2021 Mid-American Conference Championships, which are being hosted by Rider this weekend (February 26-27) at Cure Insurance Arena in Trenton, N.J.
Throughout the history of the program, the Bobcats have earned 15 MAC team championships, most recently winning the crown in 2001. Ohio also won the team title in 1955, '56, '57, '70, '71, '72, '73, '74, '75, '76, '93, '94, '95 and '97. Ohio has tallied 106 individual MAC champions, including 10 at 125 (118) pounds, seven at 133 (126), 12 at 141 (134), 18 at 149 (142), 10 at 157 (150), eight at 165 (158), 16 at 174 (167), 10 at 184 (177), six at 197 (190) and nine at 285. The Bobcats' most recent individual MAC champion was crowned in 2017 when Shakur Laney finished first at 125 as a sophomore.
As a team, the Bobcats placed eighth at the 2020 MAC Championships with 58.5 points. Missouri won its eighth-straight MAC title, finishing first with 142 points, followed by Central Michigan (121 points) and Northern Illinois (90.5 points).
On Tuesday (February 23), the MAC announced the pre-seeding for the conference championships. Ohio has three wrestlers seeded in the top-eight in their respective weight classes. The pre-seedings were determined by the league's 14 coaches in a conference call on Tuesday. Redshirt senior Mario Guillen (Perrysburg, Ohio) is seeded fifth at 133 pounds, redshirt freshman Jordan Slivka (Indianapolis, Ind.) is seeded fifth at 157 pounds and redshirt freshman Colt Yinger (Nelsonville, Ohio) is seeded third at 165 pounds.
The MAC will release the final 2021 MAC Wrestling Championships bracket later this week.
