Houston, Drake Earn Football All-MAC Honors

CLEVELAND— The Ohio football team was represented by two student-athletes on the 2021 All-Mid-American Conference Awards list, which was announced by the league office today (Dec. 1). Redshirt senior Tariq Drake and redshirt junior Bryce Houston were both named Third Team All-MAC.Â
Redshirt senior Tariq Drake (Leavittsburg, Ohio) earned All-MAC Third Team recognition as a defensive back. He was joined by redshirt junior Bryce Houston (Lewis Center, Ohio), who earned recognition as a linebacker. Both Drake and Houston have earned Academic All-MAC recognition and MAC Honor Roll status in previous seasons.Â
Houston led the team with 104 tackles, including 53 solo stops and eight tackles for loss, putting him sixth overall in the MAC. He finished the season with two sacks and one quarterback hurry. Houston set a career-high mark on Oct. 16 at Buffalo, finishing the game with 15 tackles, including 11 solo and four assisted. He was also one of seven co-captains for the 2021 team. In MAC play alone, Houston registered 73 tackles, 39 solo and 34 assisted. He added two sacks for 12 yards and 4.5 tackles for loss for 15 yards.Â
Drake finished the 2021 season with 48 tackles, including 25 solo and 2.5 tackles for loss. He had three interceptions, two pass break ups and one quarterback hurry. Drake snagged two interceptions for 23 return yards on Oct. 9 against Central Michigan. In MAC play, Drake recorded 32 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions and two pass breakups.Â
