MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. –
Central Michigan (8-7-1, 5-4-1) dealt Ohio (11-4-2, 7-1-2) their first conference loss of the season in the penultimate match of the regular season on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 24), by a score of 3-2 in double overtime. The Bobcats offense saw goals scored by Regan Berg and Sarina Dirrig

Central Michigan started the scoring quickly, as the Chippewas slotted home a goal in the 15th minute. The Ohio offensive responded well in the first half however, as the Bobcats took nine shots compared to just four for Central Michigan. Ohio was able to score an equalizer before the intermission, with Burg heading home her first goal of the season off a cross by Paige Knorr in the 37th minute.

The second half didn't see much action, with only 11 shots combined between the two teams, but Dirrig changed that in the 84th minute with her third goal of the season off an assist by Abby Townsend. The Chippewas responded right back though, scoring less than three minutes later in the 86th minute. With the second half ending with the score still tied 2-2, the two teams headed into a golden goal overtime session consisting of two, 10-minute periods.

The first overtime period only saw one shot attempt taken by Ohio, but the offensive effort by Central Michigan picked up in the second overtime frame. A total of three shots were taken in about five minutes of play, ended with a game-winning goal on a free kick from 20 yards out in the 106th minute.

The Bobcats finished with 15 total shots, nine of them on frame. Central Michigan tallied 13 total shots, with six of them being on goal.

The Ohio loss combined with other results across Mid-American Conference play sets up an exciting final matchday of the regular season. Ohio will welcome Kent State to Chessa Field on Thursday, Oct. 28, with both teams tied atop the conference table.

A win by either team would secure that school the regular season title and the top seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament. If Ohio and Kent State play to a draw on Thursday and Bowling Green secures the full three points, the Falcons would claim the regular season crown and the top seed.

First touch is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon
