Victory Over Keydets Highlights Ohio Wrestling's Afternoon at VMI Tri Meet

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Ohio wrestling team (1-4) split a pair of matches at the VMI Tri Meet this afternoon at Cormack Hall, earning a thrilling 21-18 victory over host VMI and falling to Campbell by a score of 34-6.
The Bobcats overcame a 15-3 deficit to roar back and beat the Keydets, with freshman Jacob Padilla (Huber Heights, Ohio) securing the win for Ohio in his collegiate debut by pinning junior Robbie Adelstein in 1:21 in the 285-pound bout to end the match.
After Ohio took a forefeit at 125 to begin the match, redshirt senior Mario Guillen (Perrysburg, Ohio) got the Bobcats on the board with a 9-4 win by decision over freshman Luke Fegley. The Bobcats took a loss by decision at 141 pounds and a loss by forefeit at 149 to find themselves down by 12. Ohio responded by rattling off four-straight victories by decision, however, to even the score at 15-all. Redshirt freshman Jordan Slivka (Indianapolis, Ind.) earned a 9-5 win over freshman Blake Showers at 157, redshirt sophomore Colt Yinger (Nelsonville, Ohio) logged a 5-2 win over sophomore Jon Hoover at 165, junior Logan Stanley (Fredericksburg, Ohio) recorded an 8-2 triumph over redshirt junior William Lawrence at 174 and redshirt freshman Carson Brewer (Avon, Ind.) added an 8-2 win of his own over sophomore Zach Brown at 184. Ohio took a loss by decision at 197 to fall behind by three heading into the final bout, but Slivka saved the day with the fall in the heavyweight clash.
Yinger and Slivka gave Ohio its lone wins in the match against Campbell, with Yinger earning a 6-5 win in overtime over freshman Bilal Bailey and Padilla picking up a 7-5 win by decision over freshman Luke Davis.
Ohio is scheduled to be back in action next Saturday (January 23) at the Missouri Tri Meet to take on host Missouri and Northern Illinois in a pair of Mid-American Conference matches.
