DAYTON, Ohio -- The Ohio baseball team (3-11) dropped a 15-5 decision to in-state foe Dayton (5-9-1) this afternoon at DP&L Stadium.

The Flyers pounded out 15 runs on 18 hits in the victory, six batters producing multi-hit efforts.

Dayton held a 5-0 lead after three innings, but Ohio cut the deficit to three runs in the top of the fourth. Redshirt freshman left field Trevor Lukkes (Tustin, Calif.) coaxed a leadoff walk, then scored on a double by senior first baseman Rudy Rott (Holmen, Wis.). Rott, who advanced to third base on an error after hitting the two-bagger, then scored one out later by way of an RBI ground out by sophomore third baseman Aaron Levy (Cincinnati, Ohio).

That's as close as the Bobcats got, though, as Dayton plated 10 more runs over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Ohio added three more runs to its total in the top of the ninth when redshirt freshman left fielder Cole Revels (Charlotte, N.C.) cleared the bases with a three-run double to right center that brought in redshirt junior right fielder/center fielder Ryan Sargent (Algonquin, Ill.), redshirt sophomore pinch hitter Devonte Washington (Twinsburg, Ohio) and freshman second baseman Ryan Strittmather (Vermilion, Ohio).

Levy accounted for two of Ohio's six hits while Revels drove in a team-high three runs.

Sophomore third baseman Riley Tirotta finished 3-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and a run scored to pace Dayton's bats. Junior first baseman Eddie Pursinger went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Senior left fielder Connor Echols doubled, homered and logged four RBIs. Sophomore Michael Cleary homered to go along with a single and scored three runs.

Junior right-handed starting pitcher R.J. Wagner worked six innings on the mound, striking out eight while permitting just two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks. He picked up the pitching victory to improve to 2-0 on the year. Junior righty Jordan Cox notched his first save of the season, fanning four while allowing three earned runs on a hit and three walks.

Freshman right-handed starting pitcher Eamon Horwedel (Ann Arbor, Mich.), who was one of nine pitchers utilized by the Bobcats, suffered the loss on mound for Ohio. He struck out two in two innings of work.

Ohio begins a 13-game homestand at Bob Wren Stadium this weekend at Bob Wren Stadium. The Bobcats will play their 2019 home opener against the Black Knights on Friday (March 15) at 4 p.m. ET, then wrap up the series with a Saturday (March 16) matchup at 2 p.m. ET and a Sunday (March 17) showdown at 1 p.m. ET.
