THE BASICS
The Ohio baseball team (17-21, 5-9 MAC) was swept in a doubleheader by Mid-American Conference East Division rival Kent State (29-10, 11-3 MAC) at Bob Wren Stadium in Athens, Ohio, on Saturday (April 23). The Flashes took the first game by a 6-0 margin and won game two by a score of 8-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Junior left fielder Mitch Longo (Mayfield, Ohio) went 2-for-4.
• Senior right-handed starting pitcher Jake Miller (Westerville, Ohio) threw seven innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits, no walks and nine strikeouts in the loss. He dropped to 2-7 on the season.
• Redshirt senior righty Eddie Fitzpatrick (North Attleboro, Mass.) pitched two scoreless innings, tallying two strikeouts with no hits or walks allowed.
• Freshman catcher Pete Schuler went 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBI.
• Sophomore third baseman Dylan Rosa went 1-for-4 with a solo homer.
• Junior southpaw starting pitcher Eric Lauer picked up his seventh win of the season for Kent State as he shut out the Bobcats for 6.2 innings, permitting four hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
• The Flashes tacked on three in the top half of the second. A sacrifice fly off the bat of freshman catcher Pete Schuler brought home junior first baseman Conner Simonetti. Junior second baseman Dom Iero then scored on a single by junior shortstop Sam Hurt. Hurt would advance to third on a throwing error by Gaertner and score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophmore left fielder Reilly Hawkins.
• Kent State added to its lead as Schuler hit a two-run home run to dead center to score Iero in the top of the fourth, giving the Flashes a 5-0 lead.
• In the top of the fifth, the Flashes added another run on a solo home run by Rosa to increase their lead to 6-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Junior right fielder Spencer Ibarra (Fort Collins, Colo.) went 2-for-2 with a walk.
• Freshman Rudy Rott (Holmen, Wisc.) went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.
• Junior right-handed starting pitcher Jake Rudnicki (Toledo, Ohio) took the loss, pitching five innings while allowing four earned runs on four hits, six walks and five strikeouts. He fell to 4-2 on the year.
• Redshirt sophomore lefty Gerry Salisbury (Brunswick, Ohio) pitched a pair of innings, permitting one run on five hits, one walk and four strikeouts.
• Sophomore righty Logan Jacik (Omaha, Neb.) pitched the eighth inning, surrendering one unearned run.
• Redshirt freshman right-hander Nick Kamrada (Grand Ledge, Mich.) pitched the ninth inning, tallying two strikeouts.
• Junior right fielder Luke Burch went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and a walk for Kent State.
• Sophomore catcher Tim Dalporto went 3-for-5 with three RBI for the Golden Flashes
• Junior righthander Andy Ravel pitched six scoreless innings in his fifth win of the season for the Flashes, allowing four hits and two walks with six strikeouts. He improved to 5-3 on the year.
• Redshirt senior lefty Tim Faix pitched three scoreless innings for Kent State, permitting two hits and no walks with two strikeouts. He picked up his second save of the season.
• The Flashes got the scoring started in the top of the first as a fielder’s choice off the bat of Rosa scored Burch.
• Kent State added three more runs in the top of the fifth. Rosa singled through the left side to score Burch. Senior designated hitter Zarley Zalewski came in to score when Iero was hit by a pitch and Rosa would later score on a single by Dalporto, giving the Flashes a 4-0 lead.
• The Flashes scored four more in the top of the eighth. Zalewski singled in Burch and Simonetti brought home Mamarella on a fielder’s choice. Dalporto drove home Zalewski and Simonetti on a single to right.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
• Longo recorded his team-high 17th multi-hit performance in game one.

UP NEXT
The Bobcats look to close the weekend series with a win in the finale on Sunday (April 24). First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Ohio senior right-hander Connor Sitz will get the start on the hill and face Kent State sophomore southpaw Eli Kraus.
