OXFORD, Ohio â€" Led by a dominating performance by Savannah Jo Dorsey that included 6.2 innings of perfect softball and an RBI double, the Ohio softball team defeated Mid-American Conference leading Miami, 2-1, Friday (April 22) afternoon.

“What a hot display by Dorsey against one of the top offensive teams in the conference," head coach Jodi Hermanek said. “I was really proud of our offense for stringing some hits together with runners in scoring position.”

After three innings of scoreless ball, the Bobcats finally broke through in the top of the fourth inning. With one out, Madison Claytor (Alpharetta, Ohio) crushed a pitch to the right center wall for a double. Then, on the first pitch of her at bat, Casie Hutchinson (Lebanon, Ohio) roped a single through the middle, scoring Claytor from second, putting Ohio up 1-0.

Ohio added on in the top of the seventh when Mikayla Cooper (Delaware, Ohio) led the inning off with a walk. She was then replaced on the bases by Alex Day (Hilliard, Ohio), who then stole second. Day advanced to third when Jamie Wren (Whittier, Calif.) laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt. Then on the second pitch of the at bat, Savannah Jo Dorsey (Grove City, Ohio), helping her own cause, crushed a double to the left center wall, scoring Day. The hit by Dorsey was the first of the season for the pitcher.

Dorsey’s perfect game was broken up in the bottom of the seventh inning when with two outs, Taylor Shuey hit a solo homerun to straight away center, making the score 2-1. The next batter, Johnianna Wahl doubled to leftfield, she then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Then with a runner on third, Lauren Anderson crushed the ball to centerfield where Deanna Cole (Akron, Ohio) made a flying catch to end the game and secure the 2-1 victory for Ohio.

In the circle, Dorsey pitched seven innings, allowing one run on two hits and struck out 13 while not walking a batter.

At the plate, Ohio had five hits, Hutchinson had a hit and an RBI and Dorsey also registered a hit, a double, and an RBI. Claytor has a double and Cooper and Taylor Saxton (Circleville, Ohio) both had a hit for the Bobcats.

Ohio and Miami returns to action tomorrow (April, 23) for a doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m.
