THE BASICS
Despite a late-inning rally, the Ohio baseball team (3-5) dropped the opening contest of a four-game set by falling to Wofford (8-2), 5-3, on Friday (March 4) at Russell C. King Field in Spartanburg, S.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Freshman first baseman Rudy Rott (Holmen, Wis.) went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run.
• Senior center fielder Manny De Jesus (Caguas, P.R.) went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
• Redshirt junior designated hitter Nate Squires (Plain City, Ohio) was 1-for-2 with a walk, a double and a run scored.
• Senior right-handed starting pitcher Jake Miller (Westerville, Ohio) got the start for Ohio, pitching four innings while allowing three earned runs on five hits and three walks. He tallied five strikeouts. Miller fell to 1-2 on the season.
• Redshirt sophomore righty Michael Klein (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) pitched four innings, permitting two earned runs on four hits and three walks. He notched one strikeout.
• Wofford senior second baseman Alec Paradowski went 4-for-4 with a double, triple, walk, an RBI and a run scored.
• Junior first baseman Brett Hash walked three times and scored two runs.
• Senior right-handed starting pitcher Matthew Milburn picked up the win for the Terriers to improve to 3-0 on the season, pitching eight innings and allowing one earned run on five hits and one walk. He struck out eight.
• Senior right-hander Will Stillman pitched the ninth for Wofford, permitting two runs -- one of which was earned on two hits. He fanned two.
• Wofford started off the scoring in the bottom half of the first as Paradowski led off the frame with a triple to right center and was driven in by sophomore third baseman Max McDougald on a single. 
• The Terriers added another run to their lead in the bottom of the second on a two-out single by Paradowski that drove in senior left fielder Demetrius Jackson, who reached base via a triple.
• In the bottom of the third, Hash scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore right fielder McClain Bradley to increase the Terriers' lead to 3-0.
• Wofford tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth as Hash scored on a single to right field by center fielder Kody Ruedisili, and sophomore designated hitter Cody Miller later crossed home on a bunt by sophomore shortstop Alex Malsh.
• The Bobcats got on the board in the top of the eighth as a fly ball to center field by De Jesus that allowed Squires to score from third on a sacrifice fly.
• Ohio tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth as Rott hit a two-run homer over the right field fence, scoring junior left fielder Mitch Longo (Mayfield, Ohio), who had reached on a Wofford error.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
• Rott's home run was his second of the 2016 season. He leads the team with 10 RBI.

Ohio continues its four-game set against the Terriers on Saturday (March 5), playing a doubleheader at Russell C. King Field in Spartanburg, S.C. Game one of the twin bill is scheuled for 2 p.m. ET.
