THE BASICS
The Ohio baseball team (9-11) outhit in-state foe Youngstown State (5-12) by a 12-6 margin, but the Bobcats fell to the Penguins, 8-5, on Tuesday (March 22) at Bob Wren Stadium in Athens, Ohio.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Redshirt senior catcher Cody Gaertner (Pittsburgh, Pa.) went 3-for-5 with one run scored.
• Junior outfielder Spencer Ibarra (Fort Collins, Colo.) went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
• Junior second baseman Ty Black (Waynesville, Ohio) was 1-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
• Junior shortstop Tyler Finkler (Olmsted Falls, Ohio) went 1-for-5 with two RBIs.
• Senior center fielder Manny De Jesus (Caguas, Puerto Rico) was 2-for-4 with a walk.
• Redshirt freshman right-handed starting pitcher Nick Kamrada (Grand Ledge, Mich.) got the start for Ohio, pitching one inning while allowing three earned runs on one hit, three walks and one strikeout.
• Sophomore righty Logan Jacik (Omaha, Neb.) pitched two innings and allowed one earned run on no hits, one walk and one strikeout.
• Redshirt sophomore right-hander Michael Klein (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) pitched three scoreless innings, permitting one hit and one walk with a strikeout.
• Redshirt sophomore righty Cory Blessing (Mayfield, Ohio) pitched a scoreless seventh inning, holding the Penguins hitless with one walk.
• Redshirt senior right-hander Eddie Fitzpatrick (North Attleboro, Mass.) took the loss, pitching one inning and allowed three earned runs on three hits with one strikeout.
• Redshirt sophomore left-hander Gerry Salisbury (Brunswick, Ohio) pitched the ninth and allowed one run on one hit and one walk.
• Youngstown State freshman outfielder Kyle Benyo went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer.
• Senior third baseman Billy Salem went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, three RBI and a walk.
• Freshman right-hander Joel Hake pitched 3.1 scoreless innings for the Penguins, allowing four strikeouts with one walk.
• The Penguins hung three runs in the top of the first inning on a two-run double by Salem and an RBI ground out by sophomore first baseman Andrew Kendrick.
• Ohio scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second as Finkler roped a two-out, line drive single to left field to score junior catcher Anthony Mrosla (Coon Rapids, Minn.) and junior second baseman Ty Black. Mrosla had reached base on a walk while Black found his way on via a fielder's choice.
• Youngstown State tallied another run in the top of the third as Larivee scored from third on an Ohio throwing error off of a grounder by Kendrick.
• Ohio took a 5-4 lead in a three-run seventh inning. Gaertner started things off with a one-out single and advanced to second on a base hit by freshman first baseman Rudy Rott (Holmen, Wisc.). Gaertner scored on a single by Black while Black and Rott advanced to second and third on a Youngstown State throwing error. The pair came around to score on a single by Ibarra through the left side of the infield.
• The Penguins tied the game in the top of the eighth on a fielder's choice off the bat of Kendrick that scored Salem. Benyo then gave them a two-run lead on a two-run shot to left center.
• Youngstown State added another run in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Salem that scored freshman second baseman Web Charles.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
• The Bobcats finished with double-digit hits for the 13th time in 20 games this season. Seven of the nine batters in the Ohio starting lineup tallied at least one hit.
• Gaertner extended his hitting streak to 17 games. It was his sixth multi-hit game of the year and his fourth game with at least three hits.
• Ibarra recorded his second multi-RBI contest of the season.
• De Jesus had his eighth multi-hit game of the season.

UP NEXT
Ohio begins 2016 Mid-American Conference play at Bob Wren Stadium this upcoming weekend (March 25-27) with a three-game set against West-Division foe Northern Illinois (4-16). The series opens up on Friday (March 25) with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. ET. Game two on Saturday (March 26) is slated to begin at 3 p.m. ET and the series finale on Sunday (March 27) is set to start at 1 p.m. ET.
