THE BASICS
The Ohio baseball team (7-8) picked up a doubleheader sweep over IPFW (9-7) on Saturday (March 12) at Bob Wren Stadium, outscoring the Mastodons, 7-2, in game one and 5-0 in game two. Ohio took the series 2-1 over IPFW after dropping the opening matchup Friday (March 11) by a score of 7-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 1
• Right fielder Shane Trevino got the Mastodons on the board with a two-run home run in his first appearance at the plate, driving in shortstop Greg Kaiser who had reached on a single to shallow right, giving IPFW a 2-0 lead in the opening frame.
• The Bobcats went scoreless through the next two but scored six after batting around in the third inning.
• Shortstop Tyler Finkler (Olmsted Falls, Ohio) got things going for the Bobcats reaching with a one-out single up the middle. Finkler then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
• Outfileder Manny De Jesus (Caguas, Puerto Rico) walked before second baseman Ty Black (Waynesville, Ohio) drove in Finkler on an RBI double.
• De Jesus then scored on an RBI single from Rudy Rott (Holman, Wis.).
• Third baseman John Adryan (Delran, N.J.) cleared the bases on a three-run home run which rocketed over the left field wall.
• Designated hitter Cody Gaertner (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored the final run of the inning on a fielder’s choice hit by left fielder Spencer Ibarra (Fort Collins, Colo.).
• Ohio outhit the Mastodons 9-8 while each squad committed two errors.
• Starting pitcher Jake Rudnicki (Toledo, Ohio) gave up two in the opening frame then pitched four scoreless innings giving up five total hits and struck out eight improving his overall mark to 1-0 on the season. Tom Colette (Wheaton, Ill.) pitched four innings in relief of Rudnicki striking out two and surrendering just three hits.
• Rott led Ohio in game one going 3-4 with one RBI while Finkler went 2-4 with two runs scored.
• Adryan went 1-3 with three RBI after hitting his fourth home run of the season.
• Mitchell Ley took the loss for the Mastodons falling to 0-1 on the season.
• Greg Kaiser and Shane Treviino each went 2-5 for IPFW leading the squad.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Starting pitcher Connor Stitz (Westerville, Ohio) gave up just one hit in seven innings pitched striking out two to pick up his first win of the season (1-1).
• Ohio scored a single run in the first then two in both the fourth and eighth innings to record its first shutout of the season.
• Right fielder Mitch Longo (Mayfield, Ohio) drove in De Jesus on a sacrifice fly to get things going for Ohio in the first inning.
• In the fourth inning, the Bobcats scored when designated hitter Nate Squires (Plain City, Ohio) sacrificed in Rott with two outs. Gaertner then stole third and scored on a throwing error by the third baseman.
• In the eighth, Ibarra hit his first home run in an Ohio uniform with two-outs to plate Gaertner picking up two RBI.
• Ohio outhit IPFW 7-4 and did not commit an error in the nightcap.
• Pitchers Michael Klein (Highland Park, Ohio) and Jake Roehn (Sandwich, Ill.) each pitched an inning in relief of Stitz. Klein gave up three hits with a strikeout while Roehn held IPFW hitless also striking out one.
• De Jesus led Ohio in game two going 2-4 with a run scored. Gaertner had two runs scored.
• Trevor Storie took the loss for IPFW giving up one earned run on four hits falling to 2-2 on the season.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
• Ohio recorded its first shutout of the campaign against IPFW.
• Ibarra hit his first home run of his Ohio career.

UP NEXT
Ohio hosts Northern Kentucky at Bob Wren Stadium on Tuesday (March 15). First pitch is set for 4 p.m. ET.
