HOW IT HAPPENED
⢠The Bobcats dropped the opening set despite 10 kills from Salis. Toledo grabbed a 12-8 lead thanks to three kills by Vidourek, kills by Beasley, Thomas, senior right side Mary O'Connor and sophomore outside hitter/middle hitter Gracey Tuifua and a double block by Beasley and Thomas. Ohio answered by scoring three-straight points after a kill by Salis and back-to-back kills by Kosiorek to cut the Rockets' lead down to one at 12-11. Toledo retaliated with an 6-2 run that included two Ohio service errors, back-to-back double blocks by Beasley and Townsend and a pair of kills by Beasley, making it an 18-13 lead for the Rockets. The Bobcats made it a one-point set once again at 18-17 after two kills and a double block by Salis helped force Toledo to call timeout. The Rockets then scored six of the next 10 points to grab set point at 24-21, utilizing kills by Beasley, O'Connor, Tuifua, Thomas and Vidourek. Kills by Kosiorek and Salis helped Ohio hold off defeat, but a Bobcat service error ended the set and gave Toledo a 1-0 match lead.
⢠Ohio used four kills by Salis, three by Lake and two by Kosiorek to help make it a one-point second at 15-14 in favor of Toledo in the second set. The Rockets earned the 2-0 match lead, though, by closing out the second set on a 10-6 run. Double blocks by Vidourek and Townsend and O'Connor and Townsend and kills by Vidourek, Thomas and O'Connor highlighted the stretch for Toledo.
⢠The Bobcats came out firing in the third set to take a 16-12 lead thanks to four kills by Nelson, two apiece from Lake and Kosiorek, a service ace by Olman and a double block by Lake and redshirt freshman middle blocker Natalie Burcheksy (Canonsburg, Pa.). Toledo answered with a 10-6 run to even the set score at 22-all courtesy of two kills apiece by Thomas, Townsend and Beasley and a double block by Townsend and Vidourek. That's as close as Ohio let the Rockets get to completing the sweep, though, as two kills by Salis bookended a service ace by Kosiorek and forced a fourth set.
⢠It appeared as though Ohio might be on its way to forcing a fifth set as four kills by Kosiorek and three apiece by Lake and Salis helped the Bobcats keep within three points of the Rockets at 17-14. Unfortunately for Ohio, Toledo scored the final eight points of the match -- five of which came off Bobcat errors -- to seal the victory.

QUOTABLE
Third-year head coach Deane Webb on the team's serving struggles at Toledo
"Like I told the team, about the first set and a half, every one of those misses I take. That's on me. I chose to give the team off all week to get our legs back to carry us for the last month of the season. You know when you make that decision, your first match back serve and pass is probably not going to be good. First set and a half, that's on me. After that, we probably should've been a little bit better there. I think tonight was really just quite a few poor decisions by attackers, a lot of unforced errors. We had more kills than our opponent, but we also had significantly more unforced errors. That's something that needs to be addressed, and it needs to be addressed quickly because Ball State's a good team."
Webb on Salis' performance
"She's a really smart hitter. At the start of the season, she just wanted to hit the ball as hard as she could. She's just scoring everywhere and playing at a really high level. I think it's a great inspiration for our team. Happy for her. She's as good of a kid as you want to be around, works incredibly hard and just love what she does every day, and glad to see her get that success."
