HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ohio jumped on the Wolverines early 10-5, but Michigan put together a 4-2 run and inched closer to Ohio 12-9. The Bobcats closed the first set on a 12-9 run to gain the upper hand on Michigan 25-17. The Bobcats held the Wolverines to a -.048 attack percentage in the opening set.
- Down 9-8 in the second set, Ohio saw two kills from Bull and a kill from Gilleland to take their first lead of the set 11-9. Michigan’s offensive spark and Ohio’s mistakes led to a Wolverine 11-6 run and an Ohio timeout. Down four 24-20, Ohio cut Michigan’s lead to 24-22 off of back-to-back service aces by Gilleland, but an Ohio error gave Michigan the set 25-22.
- The third set saw Michigan take a five point 7-2 lead right away. Ohio faced a 13-11 Michigan lead in the set, but the Wolverines put together a 6-2 run to own a 19-13 advantage and force Ohio into a timeout. Michigan finished the third set 25-15 after a 6-1 run and took a 2-1 match lead.
- Ohio and Michigan battled to an 8-8 tie before an attack error by the Wolverines gave Ohio a 9-8 lead in the fourth set. The Green and White gained a four point edge making Michigan take a timeout. Michigan stuck close to Ohio and eventually tied the score at 15. Ohio’s Lake, Bull, Kosiorek and Salis rallied off kills to take a 19-16 lead. Even after a Michigan attack error put Ohio up 21-18, a service error by the Bobcats and a kill from Michigan’s Cole forced Ohio to take a timeout with a 21-20 lead. The Bobcats closed the set 25-22 on a 4-2 run highlighted by kills from Shelby Walker and freshman setter/outside hitter Stephanie Olman (Maumee, Ohio).
- Trading point for point in the fifth set, Michigan eventually pulled away from the Bobcats after being tied 6-6. The Wolverines sparked a 9-1 run to close out the match, and take the Bobcat Invitational crown.

QUOTABLE
“It was a really great week for us, last Tuesday (at Kentucky) was a great win for us, and the win against Xavier was a good character win for us. Today stings, to have a Big Ten team right there and not get the win certainly hurts, but I’m happy we had a really great week and I’m proud of our kids for that.†â€" second-year head coach Deane Webb
