HOW IT HAPPENED
• Ohio and Louisville traded point-for-point to begin the opening set. Tied at 9-all, Ohio got on a 6-3 run to take a 15-12 lead and force Louisville to call timeout. Ohio saw their lead quickly fade, as Louisville rallied with a 7-1 run to take a 19-16 lead. Down three points, Lake grabbed two kills to cut Ohio's deficit, but Louisville's offense took control with four kills to take the first set, 25-19.
• Down 10-8 in the second set, Ohio drew closer to the Cardinals. Louisville grabbed three consecutive kills to push the Bobcats further down, 13-8, then took a six-point advantage, 19-13, after Ohio's timeout. The Bobcats battled back, though. A 6-1 run for the Green & White brought them to a 20-19 deficit. Ohio took its first lead of the set on a kill from Salis, and from there Kosiorek and Walker got kills to give the Bobcats a 23-22 lead. With the 'Cats sitting on set point, 24-22, Louisville was able to score two points to tie the set. Ohio's 3-1 run to close the set victory was highlighted by kills from Walker and redshirt freshman middle blocker Katie Nelson (Regina, Saskatchewan).
• The third set saw a tight, point-for-point set. Louisville and Ohio battled to a 15-all tie until Kosiorek's two aces and Louisville's attack error allowed Ohio to gain a two-point edge at 18-16. Gilleland and Bull each posted two kills to give Ohio its largest lead of the set, 20-14. The Bobcats sat on set point 24-19, but Louisville wouldn't go away. Four straight points by the Cardinals cut Ohio's lead down to one, but the Bobcats got a kill from Bull to finish the set, 25-23.
• The Cardinals wasted no time in the fourth set, jumping out to a 14-8 lead on Ohio to start. Louisville kept rolling, riding a 5-1 run to take the largest lead of the match, 19-9. Attack errors by the Cardinals let the Bobcats pick and chew at Louisville's lead, and soon Ohio found themselves down by only two at 23-21. Ohio allowed two Cardinal kills to end the set, though, giving Louisville a 25-22 set win and pushing the match to a decisve fifth set.
• The beginning of the fifth set saw Ohio and Louisville tied 5-5, but the Cardinals rattled off an 8-2 run to take a 13-7 lead. A Cardinal service error and a double block by Nelson and Lake cut Louisville's avantage down to four, but back-to-back kills by Fairs ended the match.
