THE BASICS
The Ohio baseball team (31-19, 16-10 MAC) received multi-hit efforts from three batters but stranded nine runners on base in a 7-6 setback to Mid-American Conference East Division archrival Miami (13-38, 11-15 MAC) on Friday (May 15) in the second contest of the 'Battle of the Bricks' weekend series at Stanley G. McKie Field at Joseph P. Hayden Jr. Park.

The Bobcats posted a 9-6 victory over the RedHawks in the series opener on Thursday (May 14).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore Mitch Longo (Mayfield, Ohio) continued to make his case for MAC Player of the Year, going 2-for-4 with his team-leading 12th double of the season, a walk, two RBI and a run scored.
- Redshirt senior Kyle Dean (Athens, Ohio) finished 2-for-3 with his third double of the year and two RBI.
- Redshirt senior Garrett Black (Lima, Ohio) went 2-for-5 with a run scored.
- Junior right-handed starting pitcher Connor Sitz (Westerville, Ohio) was tagged with the pitching loss for the Bobcats, falling to 6-2 on the season. He allowed six earned runs on six hits and a walk in two innings of work.
- Freshman right-handed reliever Logan Jacik (Omaha, Neb.) and senior southpaw reliever Spencer Sapp (Jasper, Ind.) combined to toss five scoreless frames out of the bullpen for Ohio. Jacik walked two over three innings while Sapp struck out one in two innings.
- Four extra-base hits helped propel Miami to the win.
- Redshirt sophomore Adam Yacek belted his sixth home run of the year for Miami and finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
- Senior Scott Slappey finished with two doubles to run his season total to eight for the RedHawks. He drove in a run and drew a walk.
- Junior Jacob Wolf went 2-for-3 with his fifth double in addition to driving home a run and scoring two more for Miami.
- Freshman right-handed starting pitcher Gus Graham was credited with the pitching victory for the RedHawks, improving to 2-3 on the year. He surrendered four earned runs on six hits and three walks but fanned three over 5.2 frames.
- Senior right-handed closer Will Schierholz picked up his sixth save of the season, throwing two scoreless frames and striking out one.
- Ohio raced ahead to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Junior Manny De Jesus (Caguas, Puerto Rico) led off the contest with a single to right, and Garrett Black followed with a base hit through the left side. Both advanced 90 feet by way of a wild pitch, setting the stage for Longo's two-RBI double to right center. After Longo stole third, he scored by way of an RBI ground out to second by senior Jake Madsen (Cincinnati, Ohio).
- Miami retaliated with a four-run bottom of the second to seize command of the game. Yacek got things started with a leadoff base hit through the left side, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. After senior Max Andresen coaxed a walk, sophomore Steve Sada doubled home Yacek to cut Ohio's lead to 3-1. Andresen made it a one-run game when he scored on an RBI ground out to first by redshirt freshman Spencer Dull. Wolf tied the contest on an RBI single to center to plate Sada. Wolf then moved to third on a double down the left field line by Slappey and gave Miami a 4-3 lead when he tagged up and scored on a sacrifice fly to right by senior Ryan Elble.
- The RedHawks extended their advantage to 6-3 in the third when Honchel hit a leadoff single through the right side to set the table for a two-run homer to center by Yacek.
- The Bobcats made it a one-run game in the sixth. Senior Tyler Wells (Lexington, Ky.) reached on a fielder's choice. One out later, sophomore Ty Black (Waynesville, Ohio) was hit by a pitch to set the stage for a two-out, two-RBI double down the left field line by Dean.
- Miami got a run back in the home half of the sixth as Wolf hit a two-out double to right center and scored on an RBI double to left center by Slappey.
- The Bobcats cut the RedHawks' lead to 7-6 in the eighth when Wells was hit by a pitch, moved to third on a double to left field by junior John Adryan (Delran, N.J.) and scored after Dean and De Jesus were hit by pitches back-to-back. Unfortunately, Ohio left the bases loaded in the frame and went down in order in the ninth.
