HOW IT HAPPENED
- Every Bobcat in the Ohio batting order posted at least one hit.
- Senior Tyler Wells (Lexington, Ky.) went 3-for-5 with his 10th double of the year and scored a run to lead the Bobcats at the plate.
- Redshirt junior Cody Gaertner (Pittsburgh, Pa.) finished 2-for-4 with three RBI.
- Junior Manny De Jesus (Caguas, P.R.) recorded two singles, an RBI and a run scored.
- Junior John Adryan (Delran, N.J.) -- the reigning MAC East Division Player of the Week -- finished 2-for-5 with a run scored.
- Sophomore Ty Black (Waynesville, Ohio) went 2-for-4 with a walk.
- Senior Jake Madsen (Cincinnati, Ohio) singled and drove in two runs.
- Senior right-handed starting pitcher Jake Miller (Westerville, Ohio) improved to 4-3 on the season, fanning five over five frames while giving up two earned runs on six hits and a walk.
- Senior right-handed closer Logan Cozart (New Philadelphia, Ohio) upped his program single-season saves record to 12 after tossing 1.1 perfect innings and striking out one.
- The RedHawks compiled 11 hits, with redshirt freshman Spencer Dull and junior Jake Romano leading the way with three hits apiece. Dull hit his third home run of the season while Romano recorded his fourth triple of the year, walked and scored two runs.
- Junior Jacob Wolf and redshirt sophomore Adam Yacek each tallied two hits for Miami, with Wolf posting his fourth double of the year and driving in a run and Yacek recording his fifth triple of the season and plating two runs.
- Sophomore right-handed starting pitcher Jacob Banks was tagged with the pitching defeat for Miami, surrendering seven runs -- three of which were earned -- on seven hits and a walk. He struck out one.
- Ohio manufactured the first run of the contest in the top of the first inning, as De Jesus led off the game with a single to right, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by redshirt senior Garrett Black (Lima, Ohio) and scored one out later on an RBI single back up the middle by Madsen.
- Miami knotted the contest at one-all in the bottom of the second. Sophomore Steve Sada sent a one-out base hit back up the middle, stole second, moved up to third one out later on a wild pitch and then scored on a double to left center by Wolf.
- The Bobcats seized command of the game again with two runs in the third. Garrett Black led off the frame by reaching safely by way of a throwing error at third by Yacek, and sophomore Mitch Longo (Mayfield, Ohio) followed with his conference-leading 75th hit of the year -- a double down the left field line. Black tagged up and scored from third on a sacrifice fly to center by Madsen, which allowed Longo to advance to third. Longo then tagged up and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Gaertner.
- The RedHawks made it a one-run game in the home half of the third as Romano sent a one-out triple to right and scored on an RBI ground out to second by senior Matt Honchel.
- Ohio took a 7-2 lead in a four-run fourth that featured three hits and two Miami miscues. Adryan got things going with a leadoff single to right center. Redshirt sophomore Nate Squires (Plain City, Ohio) followed by drawing a walk, and both he and Adryan moved into scoring position on a bunt single by Ty Black that loaded the bases. Adryan scored Ohio's fourth run by way of a sacrifice fly to right by De Jesus. Squires then scored on an error at first base by senior Ryan Elble that allowed Garrett Black to reach safely. Longo reached on another error by Elble at first that reloaded the bases. One out later after Madsen reached on a fielder's choice, Gaertner hit a two-out, two-RBI single to bring home both Garrett Black and Longo.
- The Bobcats added two more runs in the fifth. Wells sent a leadoff double to left center and then scored one out later on a double to left center by Squires. After Ty Black drew a walk, Squires scored one out later on a double down the left field line by Garrett Black.
- Miami got a run back in the seventh on a leadoff home run to left by Dull.
- The RedHawks continued to mount a rally with a three-run eighth. Romano sent a leadoff base hit through the right side, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. After Honchel drew a walk, both he and Romano scored on a two-run triple to right center by Yacek. Yacek then tagged up from third and scored Miami's sixth run on a sacrifice fly to right by senior Max Andresen, making it a three-run affair.
- Cozart got the final four outs of the ballgame for Ohio, though, sealing the victory for the Bobcats.
