THE BASICS
Senior Jake Madsen (Cincinnati, Ohio) stroked a bases-clearing double to break a ninth-inning tie and push the Ohio baseball team (18-12) to a 4-2 victory at rival Marshall (9-22) and its fourth straight win on Wednesday (April 8) at Kennedy Center YMCA Field in Huntington, W. Va.

The Bobcats swept the season series with the Thundering Herd with the win. Ohio defeated Marshall by an 11-8 count on March 25 at Bob Wren Stadium in Athens. The Bobcats swept the season series with the Thundering Herd for the first time since 2007.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Madsen went 3-for-4 and drove in all four of Ohio's runs.
- Junior Manny De Jesus (Caguas, P.R.) finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
- Ohio utilized nine pitchers to limit Marshall to two earned runs on seven hits.
- Redshirt senior left-handed starting pitcher Evan Geist (Roswell, Ga.), freshman right-handed pitcher Logan Jacik (Omaha, Neb.), senior right-handed pitcher Jeremy Cronk (North Plains, Ore.), sophomore right-handed pitcher Christian Botter (Toronto, Canada), redshirt senior right-handed pitcher David Hamlett (Stockton, Calif.) and sophomore right-handed pitcher Tom Colletti (Wheaton, Ill.) each tossed a scoreless frame. Colletti earned the mound triumph to improve to 2-1 on the season. Cronk, sophomore right-handed pitcher Tyler Finkler (Olmsted Falls, Ohio) and Botter each tallied a strikeout.
- Senior right-handed pitcher Logan Cozart (New Philadelphia, Ohio) picked up his sixth save of the year. He fanned one in the bottom of the ninth while giving up an earned run on two hits.
- Sophomore Corey Bird led Marshall at the plate with two hits.
- Redshirt senior right-handed reliever Josh King was tagged with the pitching defeat for the Thundering Herd, falling to 0-2 on the season. He struck out three and allowed three runs -- one of which was earned -- on two hits and a walk.
- Ohio took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when De Jesus singled up the middle, moved to second on a walk by redshirt senior Garrett Black (Lima, Ohio), advanced to third on a fielder's choice that put sophomore Mitch Longo (Mayfield, Ohio) on and tagged up and scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Madsen.
- Marshall evened the score with a run in the home half of the fourth. Junior Aaron Bossi hit a one-out single to left, reached third safely on a fielder's choice and an error that put King on and then scored on a double down the left field line by senior Andrew Dundon.
- The Bobcats began their late charge to victory when redshirt senior Taylor Emody (Milan, Ohio) reached first base on a passed ball third strike to begin the top of the ninth. Emody was replaced on the bases by senior Tirey Burch, who moved to second on a base hit through the left side by De Jesus. Both moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Black. Marshall opted to intentionally walk Longo, and Madsen made the Herd pay with a double to center that scored Burch, De Jesus and Longo and gave the Bobcats a 4-1 lead.
- Marshall got a run back in the bottom of the ninth when redshirt senior TJ Diffenderfer legged out a leadoff single to third, advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a ground out to short by King and scored on a two-out, pinch-hit single to left by freshman Chad Roberts. That's as close as the Thundering Herd got, though, as Cozart shut the door by striking out redshirt sophomore Billy Sager.
