THE BASICS
Senior Jake Madsen (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded his 270th career hit to break the program's all-time hits record as the Ohio baseball team (26-15, 11-7 MAC) completed a weekend series sweep of Mid-American Conference East Division foe Akron (19-22, 9-9 MAC), 5-3, on Sunday (April 26) at Bob Wren Stadium.

The Bobcats swept the weekend series from the Zips. Ohio won the series opener, 1-0, on Friday (April 24) courtesy of a one-out, walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning by senior Tyler Wells (Lexington, Ky.), then took game two on Saturday (April 25) by a 6-1 margin.

Ohio recorded its third MAC series win of the season and second straight. The Bobcats' 26 wins thus far in 2015 exceed the program's win total from the previous two seasons combined.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Madsen broke the program record for hits in the bottom of the fourth inning with a leadoff single up the middle. He went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Madsen surpassed the 269 career-hit standard set by Ben Crabtree (2002-05).
- Junior Cody Gaertner (Pittsburgh, Pa.) went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
- Madsen, Gaertner, sophomore left fielder Mitch Longo (Mayfield, Ohio) and junior third baseman John Adryan (Delran, N.J.) each recorded one RBI.
- Sophomore right-handed starting pitcher Jake Rudnicki (Toledo, Ohio) lasted five innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits and two walks while posting three strikeouts. He picked up the victory on the mound to improve to 3-4 on the season.
- Senior righty Logan Cozart (New Philadelphia, Ohio) pitched four innings in relief, permitting one earned run on five hits. He tallied six strikeouts. Cozart earned his career-high eighth save of the year, which matches Chad Reed (1991) for the second-most saves in a single season in program history.
- Akron redshirt senior right-handed starting pitcher Jon Pusateri went 4.2 innings, allowing five runs -- four of which were earned -- on six hits and two walks. He struck out four.
- Sophomore Dom Iero led Akron at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort. He drove in a run.
- Junior Kris Simonton went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI for the Zips.
- The Zips opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the first. Junior Daulton Mosbarger drew a one-out walk and moved to third on a single to center by redshirt senior Joey Havrilak. After Havrilak stole second, Simonton drove in both Mosbarger and Havrilak on a single to center and advanced to third on a throwing error by sophomore Ty Black (Waynesville, Ohio).
- Ohio scored its first run in the bottom half of the second when senior Tyler Wells (Lexington), who reached base on a fielder's choice after beating out a potential double play and advanced to second via a wild pitch, came around to score on a single to left center by junior John Adryan (Delran, N.J.).
- The Bobcats took a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth with a four-run frame. Freshman Tony Giannini (Carmel, Ind.) started things off with a one-out single, and junior center fielder Manny De Jesus (Caguas, P.R.) followed with a base hit of his own. Senior shortstop Garrett Black (Lima, Ohio) loaded up the bases with a walk, and Ohio tied the game on a four-pitch walk to sophomore Mitch Longo (Mayfield, Ohio) that bumped home Giannini. Madsen followed that with a sacrifice fly to center that brought home De Jesus. A two-out single to right by Gaertner drove in Garrett Black, and an error by freshman Alex Dirienzo allowed Longo to cross home plate.
- Akron got a run back in the top of the sixth. Simonton reached on a fielder's choice, and a pair of singles by junior Billy Salem and redshirt junior Gerrad Rohan allowed Akron to load the bases. A fielding error error by Madsen at first allowed Simonton to score and put Iero on safely to reload the bases for the Zips. Cozart worked out of the one-out, bases-loaded jam, though, with a pair of strikeouts.
- Cozart retired Zips in order in both the seventh and eighth, then worked around a leadoff single by Iero in the ninth to close out the victory for the Bobcats.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Ohio has won 12 of its last 15 -- including nine of its last 12 MAC games.
- Ohio recorded its second MAC series sweep of the season and first at home. The last time the Bobcats swept a pair of league series was in 2012 when the Bobcats took a series from the Zips at home and Buffalo on the road.
- Ohio moved into first place in the MAC East Division by virture of Kent State's 2-0 loss at MAC East Division rival Miami on Sunday. The Bobcats hold the tiebreaker over the Golden Flashes thanks to last weekend's series win in Kent.
- Madsen has reached base safely in a team-high 14 straight games.
- Gaertner recorded his 14th multi-hit game of the season and fourth contest with at least three hits.
- De Jesus has a team-high 10-game hitting streak going.
- Adryan has hit safely in seven straight games.

QUOTABLE
Senior Jake Madsen:
"I've got to be honest, those first two at-bats were probably the most nervous I've ever been in my whole career at Ohio. I'm just glad I got it out of the way so we can just stick to winning and worry about the MAC now."

UP NEXT
Ohio will play host to MAC West foe Toledo for its final home weekend series of the season, with the series beginning on Friday (May 1) at 6 p.m. ET. Game two is slated to start at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday (May 2) and the Senior Day finale will take place on Sunday (May 3) at 1 p.m. ET.
