THE BASICS
Sophomore Mitch Longo (Mayfield, Ohio) went 3-for-4 with a walk and a run scored and six pitchers combined to throw 7.1 scoreless innings and limit the opposition to four hits as the Ohio baseball team (20-14) came away with a 6-3 win over in-state foe Youngstown State (9-21) on Tuesday (April 14) at Eastwood Field in Niles, Ohio.

The Bobcats recorded their first 20-win season since 2012.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Redshirt junior Cody Gaertner (Pittsburgh, Pa.) finished 2-for-3 with a double, four RBI and a run scored.
- Senior Jake Madsen (Cincinnati, Ohio) tallied a double and a single and scored two runs.
- Redshirt senior left-handed starting pitcher Evan Geist (Roswell, Ga.), freshman right-hander Logan Jacik (Omaha, Neb.), senior southpaw Spencer Sapp (Jasper, Ind.), sophomore righty Corey Wells (Lexington, Ky.), sophomore right-hander Tom Colletti (Wheaton, Ill.) and senior right-handed closer Logan Cozart (New Philadelphia, Ohio) teamed up to toss 7.1 scoreless frames.
- Wells threw two shutout frames and fanned one to earn his first pitching victory of the season.
- Cozart picked up his career-high seventh save of the year, striking out all three batters he faced in the bottom of the ninth inning.
- Junior Josh Fitch led Youngstown State at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort that included his first home run of the season.
- Senior right-handed starting pitcher Josh North was charged with the mound loss for the Penguins, giving up six earned runs on seven hits and two walks over 5.1 frames of work. He fanned three.
- The Penguins grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Fitch sent a two-out single to center and senior Jake Fryan followed by drawing a walk. Sophomore Shane Willoughby plated both with a two-RBI single to left.
- The Bobcats wasted little time in striking back, however, tying the contest up in the fourth. Longo legged out a one-out single to second, then moved into scoring position on a double down the left field line by Madsen, setting the table for Gaertner's two-RBI base hit to center to knot the ballgame up.
- Fitch put Youngstown State back in front with a leadoff home run to left in the bottom of the fifth.
- Ohio seized control of the contest in with a four-run sixth. Madsen got things going with a one-out single to left. Senior Tyler Wells (Lexington, Ky.) followed by drawing a walk. A double down the left field line by Gaertner plated Madsen and Wells gave the Bobcats a 4-3 lead. Gaertner then scored on a double down the left field line by junior John Adryan (Delran, N.J.). After sophomore Ty Black (Waynesville, Ohio) singled to right and redshirt senior Kyle Dean (Athens, Ohio) was hit by a pitch, Adryan scored the game's final run on an RBI ground out to short by junior Manny De Jesus (Caguas, P.R.).
