Short Story: The Ohio volleyball team (25-7) suffered a 3-0 (25-10, 25-18, 25-23) setback to in-state rival Dayton (26-5) in the 2015 regular season finale on Friday (Nov. 27) at the Convocation Center in Athens, Ohio.

THE BASICS
• The Atlantic 10 Conference champion Flyers attacked at a .312 (46 kills-11 errors-112 total attacks) clip while holding the Mid-American Conference champion Bobcats to a .081 (32 kills-22 errors-124 total attacks) hitting percentage.
• Junior outside hitter/libero Mallory Salis (Oak Lawn, Ill.) posted a double-double for Ohio, leading the team with 12 kills while chipping in 12 digs. She also recorded an assisted block.
• Senior middle blocker Karin Bull (Bloomington, Minn.) recorded a team-high three total blocks (one solo, two assisted) to go along with four kills for the Bobcats.
• First Team All-MAC senior setter Abby Gilleland (Bull Valley, Ill.) distributed a team-high 28 assists to go along with three kills, an assisted block and eight digs for Ohio.
• First Team All-MAC senior libero Meredith Ashy (Louisville, Ky.) logged a team-high 16 digs for Ohio to go along with an assist.
• Senior outside hitter Alaina Turner led the match with 23 kills for the Flyers, attacking at a .408 (23 kills-three errors-49 total attacks) clip. The 2015 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year also added two total blocks (one solo, one assisted) and seven digs.
• Senior outside hitter hitter Jill Loiars added 11 kills for Dayton and hit at a .476 (11 kills-one error-21 total attacks) rate. She also contributed three assisted blocks and a dig.
• Redshirt senior middle blocker Angel Agu led the match with four total blocks (one solo, three assisted) and chipped in a dig for Dayton.
• Sophomore setter Jane Emmenecker tallied a match-high 43 assists for the Flyers. The 2015 Atlantic 10 Setter of the Year also posted a kill and five digs.
• Senior libero Janna Krafka notched a match-high 24 digs for Dayton. The 2015 Atlantic 10 Libero of the Year also recorded a service ace.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Dayton dominated the opening set, rolling to a 15-point victory as Turner tallied eight kills.
• The Flyers jumped out to a 13-8 lead in the early going of the second set, but the Bobcats responded with a 9-3 run that featured a solo block by Bull, three kills by Salis and a double block by Salis and Bull and gave Ohio a 17-16 lead. Unfortunately for the Green & White, Dayton answered the challenge by closing out the set victory with a 9-1 run.
• The Bobcats and Flyers traded points to build up to a 12-all tie in the third set. Dayton then rattled off three straight to take a 15-12 advantage and force Ohio to burn a timeout. The Bobcats scored seven of the next 13 points to trim the Flyers' lead to two at 21-19, thanks in large part to two kills by Salis and kills by Gilleland, sophomore outside hitter Jaime Kosiorek (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) and senior middle blocker/outside hitter Shelby Walker (Bradenton, Fla.). Dayton rattled off three straight points to increase its lead to 23-19 and force Ohio to call a timeout. The Bobcats did not go quietly, though, as a kill by Salis, a double block by Gilleland and Bull and a kill by Kosiorek made it a one-point set at 23-22 and forced the Flyers to call timeout. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, Turner tallied two of the match's final three kills to give Dayton the victory.

QUOTABLE
Second-Year Head Coach Deane Webb on loss to Dayton
"The big thing is that any team we play going forward is going to be at that level or better, particularly just the physicality is different. I think early on in that match we struggled against the physicality. Dayton's a more physical team than any team we play in our conference. They're a more physical team than we are, frankly. So, we have to find other ways to be successful. We need to do a better job just technically with our feet so we can attack the ball with more pace. We did a good job tonight with serve receive. I really liked that by the end of the night we were playing evenly with a good team. They're an RPI-25 team for a reason. By the end of the night, we were playing very well with them. Just early on, I think it took as longer to get going than it should have."

Second-Year Head Coach Deane Webb on team bouncing back from a tough first set
"I think that's a sign that you've had success this season, and you have real confidence, not just hope, but you have a real belief that you can turn this around. Last year at Dayton, we were down 0-2, and we went to five. So, I just know our team believes it can be better than we were tonight. I know I believe we can be better than we were tonight, and we're looking forward to next week."

Second-Year Head Coach Deane Webb on what is ahead heading into 2015 NCAA Championship
"It's always a bit of a sprint from the moment you find out who you're playing until you actually leave town. Depending on if you're flying or driving, day of the week when you leave could change. You try to get a couple practices in and then you're on the road. From there, it's just a great time of the year. It's a great opportunity. We're very thankful we're on of the 64 teams that are still playing next week, and I know our team is looking forward to getting back in the gym, making a couple little changes that we need to and then going to find success."
