Short Story: The Ohio volleyball team (19-5, 9-2 MAC) fell to Mid-American Conference East Division archrival Miami, 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-22), on Friday (Oct. 30) in a 'Battle of the Bricks' matchup at Millett Hall in Oxford, Ohio.

THE BASICS
• Miami limited Ohio to a .037 attack percentage (29 kills-24 errors-135 total attacks) while hitting at a .234 clip (41 kills-11 errors-128 total attacks).
• Senior middle blocker Karin Bull (Bloomington, Minn.) led the Bobcats with eight kills.
• Junior outside hitter/libero Mallory Salis (Oak Lawn, Ill.) recorded a match-high three service aces and chipped in five kills and 10 digs for Ohio.
• Redshirt freshman middle blocker Katie Nelson (Regina, Saskatchewan) led Ohio with three total blocks (one solo, two assisted) and added a kill, a service ace and four digs.

• Senior libero Meredith Ashy (Louisville, Ky.) led Ohio with 20 digs and posted an assist.
• Junior middle hitter Paige Hill put together a big night for the RedHawks, leading the match with 12 kills and eight total blocks (four solo, four assisted). She also notched four digs.
• Senior outside hitter Annie Reiswig totaled 10 kills, four total blocks (two solo, two assisted), a service ace and two digs for Miami.
• Redshirt senior middle hitter Jenny Ingle added seven kills and two solo blocks for the RedHawks.
• Redshirt freshman setter Mackenzie Zielinski recorded a double-double for Miami with a team-high 20 assists to go along with 13 digs. She also contributed a kill.
• Junior setter Krista Brakauskas also achieved a double-double for the RedHawks, tallying 13 assists and 12 digs.
• Sophomore defensive specialist Maeve McDonald led the match with 24 digs for Miami. She also notched a service ace.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Miami established control of the opening set early and built an 18-12 lead thanks to three kills and a solo block by Reiswig, two kills and two solo blocks by Hill and two kills by sophomore outside hitter/right side Katie Tomasic. A double block by Nelson and senior middle blocker/outside hitter Shelby Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) and three straight service aces by Salis helped the Bobcats cut the RedHawks' lead to four at 20-16 and forced Miami to call timeout. The RedHawks regrouped, though, and ended the set on a 5-2 run to take a 1-0 match lead.
• The second set was much like the first, with the RedHawks running out to a 19-12 lead by utilizing five kills by Hill, three by Tomasic and two by Reiswig. Ohio trimmed Miami's lead down to five at 21-16 with a 4-2 stretch highlighted by kills by Gilleland and Nelson. The RedHawks closed the set out with four straight points, though, using a solo block by Ingle, a kill by Reiswig and a solo block by sophomore outside hitter Olivia Rusek to secure a 2-0 advantage in the match.
• Miami took a quick 5-3 lead in the third set with two kills apiece by Reiswig and Hill and another by Rusek, but Ohio rattled off five straight points to take an 8-5 lead and force the RedHawks to burn a timeout. The stretch was highlighted by two kills by Bull and a kill and a service ace by sophomore outside hitter Jaime Kosiorek (Chagrin Falls, Ohio). A 5-2 run by Miami tied the match at 10-all, but the Bobcats countered with a 4-2 stretch to take a 14-12 lead, using kills by Kosiorek and Salis and a service ace by Nelson. The RedHawks responded with four straight points to snatch a 16-14 edge thanks to two kills by Reiswig and a block by Hill. The Bobcats managed to tie the set three more times -- at 17-all on a service ace by Kosiorek, at 18-all on a kill by Bull and at 22-all on a service ace by Walker. Unfortunately for Ohio, that's as close as they would get, as a kill and a solo block by Hill and a double block by Reiswig and Hill ended the match for Miami.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
• Ohio's loss snapped a 12-match winning streak against the RedHawks.
• Gilleland posted her 12th double-double of the year and 37th of her career. She recorded double-digit assists for the 24th time this season and 116th time in her career while posting double-digit digs for the 14th time this year and 42nd time in her career.
• Ashy achieved double-digit digs for the 21st time this year and has now finished with 20 or more 11 times. She has notched double-digit digs 105 times in her career -- including 20 or more 43 times in her career. With 2,062 digs for her career, she is now 30 away from becoming Ohio's all-time leader in the rally scoring era.
• Salis notched double-digit digs for the 12th time this season and 28th time in her career.

QUOTABLE
