Final Results
TOLEDO, Ohio- The Ohio women’s swimming and diving team returned to action Satuurday afternoon, battling hard, but falling to Mid-American
Conference foe Toledo, 151-147.
The meet began with a win for the Bobcats, with the team of Addison Ferguson (Westfield Center, Ohio), Tori Bagan (Roanoke, Ind.), Laura Dawson (Newcastle Upon Tyne, Eng.) and Haley Clark (College Station, Texas) earning first-place in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing with a time of 1:43.67. Ohio also earned third-place in the event, with the quartet of Caroline Raley (Mobile, Ala.), Hannah Shinn (Waterloo, Ill.), Carrie Dukes (Monktown, Md.) and Liz Murphy (Western Springs, Ill.) finishing with a time of 1:48.88.
The competition continued with the longest race of the afternoon, the 1,000-yard freestyle. Bianca Hauzer (Bedfordview, South Africa) finished in third-place with a time of 10:29.70. The Bobcats then followed with a second and third-place finish in the next event, the 200-yard freestyle. Josie Barker (Richmond, N. Yorkshire, Eng.) finished with a time of 1:55.90 to earn the silver spot, and Katie Lemen (Carmel, Ind.) completed the race with a final time of 1:56.66 to earn the bronze.
Ferguson took the pool for a second time, winning the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.86. Ferguson’s time set a Toledo pool record. She was followed by Raley, who took third-place in the same event with a time of 59.27. Bagan followed suit, earning the gold in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.91.
The competition continued with the 200-butterfly event, in which Dawson and Elena Patz (Waunakee, Wis.) took first and second-place, respectively. Dawson finished with a final time of 2:05.88, and Patz with a time of 2:07.46. Their teammates Clark and Murphy took to the water afterwards, earning second and third-place in the 50-yard freestyle event. Clark finished with a time of 24.27 for second-place, and Murphy with a time of 24.56 for third.
At the halfway point of the meet was the three-meter diving event. Karrisa Conner (Granite Bay, Calif.) earned second-place in the event, with a final score of 230.48. She also took second-place in the one-meter event as well, with a final score of 218.18.
After diving, the Bobcats got back on the starting blocks for the 100-yard freestyle, in which Clark earned third-place for Ohio with a final time was 53.09. Her success was quickly followed by teammates Dawson and Myriah Ariza-Balter (Evergreen, Colo.) in the following event, the 200-yard backstroke. Dawson earned the gold with a time of 2:01.53, and Ariza-Balter brought home the bronze with a time of 2:08.33.
Bagan’s afternoon continued with another win, with a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke. She won the event with a time of 2:22.33. Ferguson and Clark continued to have success as well, bringing in first and third-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly, respectively. Ferguson’s final time was 56.07, and Clark’s was 58.27.
In the final individual event of the afternoon, the 200-yard individual medley, the Bobcats earned their final win with Stephanie Gyurke (Bellevue, Ohio) beating out the competition with a final time of 4:33.80.
As the meet came to a close, Ohio brought home second and third-place in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Dawson, Barker, Hauzer, and Lemen took second with a final time of 7:39.98. They were followed by Dukes, Michelle Gaisor (Louisville, KY), Shinn, and Patz, who raced for third-place with a final time of 7:57.04.
The Bobcats will compete again next weekend in Morgantown, W. Va. at West Virginia. The competition will begin at 4:30 p.m.
