Kent, Ohio â€" The Ohio wrestling team (4-4, 0-3 MAC) fell to the Kent State Golden Flashes, 24-12, Friday evening in the M.A.C. Center at Kent, Ohio.
The Golden Flashes grabbed an early lead over the Bobcats, claiming a decision-win at 125. A pin by Mackenzie McGuire in 1:18 against Ohio freshman Joshua Parrett (Kettering, Ohio) at the 133-class extended the Kent advantage.
Joel Shump (Batavia) responded for Ohio with a 5-4 decision at the 141-class. This marks the redshirt freshman’s first triumph in duel competition this season and improves his overall record to 10-9.
A 9-4 decision by Ohio’s No. 10 Tywan Claxton (South Euclid, Ohio) followed, improving the redshirt junior’s record to 20-2 overall and 6-2 in duel competition.
Kent State continued their campaign through the next two weight classes, with Ian Miller recording a pin in 1:31 against Spartak Chino (Wheaton, Ill.) at 157 and No. 19 Harrison Hightower (Strongsville, Ohio) suffering a 4-0 decision loss at 165.
Redshirt junior No. 10 Cody Walters (Macedonia, Ohio) improved his team-high record to 21-1 following a 5-0 decision at the 174-class. This marks the redshirt juniors 15th consecutive triumph and increases his duel record to 6-1, where he remains undefeated in MAC competition.
Following a loss at the 184-class, redshirt junior No. 17 Phil Wellington (Euclid, Ohio) claimed the final Ohio win of the night with a 2-1 overtime decision against Kent State’s Cole Baxter. This is Wellington’s third-consecutive win, improving his duel record to 7-1.

Ohio will travel to Ypsilanti, Mich. to take on Eastern Michigan on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the EMU Convocation Center.
The Eagles are currently 7-5 overall and 0-1 in MAC play. At the Cleveland State Open on Dec. 13, EMU saw three top-four finishes, including a second-place finish by freshman Armando Torres.
