ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio University volleyball team (3-3) triumphed over Virginia Tech University, (2-4) 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 28-30, 25-14), on Saturday (Sept. 6) in the final match of the 2014 Baymont Inn & Suites Invitational at the Convocation Center.
 
"I was really proud of the girls for the win tonight," said first-year head coach Deane Webb. "That was a good win. We came back and won in the second set, and that’s a team-defining kind of a moment. We didn’t panic, worked our way through it and worked our way back in. We let the third set get away, but we just dominated the fourth set."
 
The Bobcats took second in the event by going 2-1 on the weekend. Ohio fell to Texas A&M University, 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 26-24) on Friday (Sept. 5), but the 'Cats bounced back on Saturday afternoon and swept past Virginia Commonwealth University, 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-20) on Saturday afternoon.
 
Ohio’s 2013 American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America Honorable Mention duo of senior outside hitter Kelly Lamberti (Cary, Ill.) and junior setter Abby Gilleland (Bull Valley, Ill.) earned spots on the All-2014 Baymont Inn & Suites Invitational Team.
 
Lamberti finished the weekend with 45 kills (4.50 per set), 30 digs (3.00 per set) six total blocks (five solo, one assisted) and two service aces while Gilleland totaled 107 set assists (10.70 per set), 20 kills (2.00 per set), 29 digs (2.90 per set), five total blocks (one solo, four assisted) and five service aces.
 
Lamberti recorded a team-high 20 kills to go along with 13 digs, four total blocks (three solo, one assisted) and three assists to pace the ‘Cats. She tallied her third match of the 2014 season with at least 20 kills and 11th of her career and recorded her third double-double of the year and 52nd of her career.
 
Gilleland also achieved her third double-double of the season, tallying a season-high 45 set assists to go along with 16 digs to reach the milestone for the 19th time in her career. She also contributed seven kills, two total blocks (one solo, one assisted) and a service ace.
 
Junior middle blocker Karin Bull (Bloomington, Minn.) added a season-high nine kills and three assisted blocks. Junior middle blocker/outside hitter Shelby Walker (Brandenton, Fla.) and freshman outside hitter Jaime Kosiorek (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) each tallied seven kills. 
 
Junior libero Meredith Ashy (Louisville, Ky.) posted a game-high 20 digs, three assists and two service aces while sophomore setter/defensive specialist Brooke Coleman (Plano, Texas) added a season-high 16 digs and a service ace. 

 
Sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Owens finished with a game-high 23 kills along with 15 digs to lead the Hokies and earn a spot on the All-2014 Baymont Inn  & Suites Invitational Team. 
 
Freshmen setter Kyra Coundourides recorded a team-high 27 assists to go along with ten digs, and a service ace.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Amanda McKinzie finished with a team-high 17 digs and posted five kills for Virginia Tech. 
 
Senior setter Jordan Fish added 15 digs and tied redshirt freshman right side hitter Ashley Battle for the team lead with three total blocks (two solo, one assisted).
 
Texas A&M earned the 2014 Baymont Inn & Suites Invitational title by going 3-0 on the weekend. The Aggies edged out VCU, 3-2 (25-20, 19-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-11) on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Sophomore outside hitter Emily Hardesty â€" the 2014 Baymont Inn & Suites Invitational MVP -- led the Aggies in kills, with 15. She also recorded 19 digs.
 
Ohio heads to the southwest corner of the state and Queen City to take part in Xavier University’s Millennium Hotel Invitational in Cincinnati. The Bobcats will face off against the host Musketeers on Friday (Sept. 12) at 7 p.m. ET, then take on another in-state rival -- Ohio State University -- before closing the weekend against Syracuse University on Saturday (Sept. 13) at 10 a.m. ET and 4:30 p.m. ET, respectively.
