CARMEL, Ind. â€" The Ohio University men’s golf team wrapped up the 2013-14 regular season after tallying an eighth-place finish at the annual MAC Championship Sunday at Prairie View Golf Club.
The Bobcats finished up the tournament by shooting a final round 299 (+11). Ohio earned the eighth-place finish with a combined, three-day total of 1206 (304-299-304-299, +54). Kent State won the event with a combined total of 1155 (+3).
Senior Phil Gieseker led the Green & White in final round action with an even-par 72, his best 18-hole total of the championship. The Saline, Mich., native made three birdies on the day and finished the event tied for 29th place (73-78-80-72-303, +15). It marked the final tournament of Gieseker’s Ohio career.
“I wanted to go out the right way and play well,†Gieseker said. “I missed some opportunities today, but I made a clutch putt on 17 to make birdie and get back to even. I can say I went out on a high note and I can’t thank Ohio University enough for this experience.â€
“The experience at Ohio University has just been phenomenal â€" I wouldn’t trade it for the world,†Gieseker added. “I’ve met so many amazing people and my teammates have been great. It’s an experience I’ll remember for the rest of my life.â€
Junior Andrew Mlynarski (St. Michaels, Md.) also finished strong on Sunday with a final round 73 (+1). Mylnarski made back-to-back birdies on the 16th and 17th holes to propel himself to a t-21st finish (74-70-83-73-300, +12). It marked Ohio’s best finish of the tournament and Mlynarski’s top MAC Championship total of his Ohio career.
Freshman Peyton White (Huntersville, N.C.) fired a two-over par 74 (+2) in his final round to finish t-23rd in his MAC Championship debut (79-76-72-74-301, +13). White also tallied three birdies on the day and was just three-over par over his final two rounds.
Junior Thomas Leech (Pittsburgh, Pa.) placed 41st in his first MAC Championship appearance (83-75-76-80-314, +26), while senior Bradley Lucas (Worthington, Ohio) finished 43rd (78-79-76-83-316, +28) in the final tournament of his Ohio career.
