HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Flyers turned a seven-all stalemate in the opening set into a 12-8 advantage, but the Bobcats countered by scoring six of the next nine points to pull within one at 15-14. The spurt was highlighted by kills by Bull, Gilleland and Lamberti. Dayton built its lead back up four again at 21-17, but Ohio made it a two-point set again at 22-20 after a double block by Kosiorek and Bull and kills by Kosiorek and Gilleland. Dayton closed out the 1-0 match lead, though, by rattling off three straight points.
• Dayton turned a 14-13 edge in a back-and-forth start to the second set into a 20-14 lead courtesy of a 6-1 run. The 'Cats answered back, though, by going on a 6-3 run powered by two kills by Kosiorek, a solo block by Bull and a double block by Burkle and Bull. The Flyers scored two of the second set's final three points, though, to take a 2-0 match lead.
• The Bobcats refused to go quietly and started their rally by racing out to an 8-2 lead in the third set thanks to two kills by Burkle, another by Lamberti, three straight service aces by Hord and a double block by Bull and Gilleland. Dayton cut Ohio's lead down to three at 10-7 thanks to a 5-2 run. The 'Cats built their advantage up to seven by scoring 13 of the next 20 points, highlighted by four kills by Lamberti and kills by Kosiorek, Burkle, Bull and sophomore outside hitter/libero Mallory Salis (Oak Lawn, Ill.). The Flyers scored three of the next four points to make it a seven-point match but another kill by Kosiorek forced a fourth set.
• Ohio leapt out to an 18-9 lead in the fourth set, using four kills by Lamberti, two more by junior middle blocker/outside hitter Shelby Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) and double blocks by Lamberti and Bull and two more by Gilleland and Bull. Dayton scored three of the next four points to cut Ohio's lead to seven points at 19-12. That's as close as the Bobcats let the Flyers get, though, scoring six of the set's final seven points thanks to three kills by Lamberti, another by Kosiorek and a solo block by Bull, sending the match to a decisive fifth set.
• The Flyers grabbed a 10-5 lead to begin the final set. Ohio cut it down to four at 12-8 thanks in large part to kills by Burkle and Kosiorek, but Dayton scored three of the next four to seal the win.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
• The Bobcats have won at least 23 matches in 11 of the last 13 seasons.

QUOTABLE
• "We'll wait and see what the selection committee has to tell us. We have a number of very good wins and very few bad losses. A lot of teams around the country are where are right now; just kind of hoping. If we get to play again, I would love that. I would love that for this group. I would for us to still be together as a team next week at this time. If we didn't, we can leave knowing our kids showed a lot of character, coming back from 0-2, playing that hard and that aggressively and putting themselves in position to win. I'm really proud of the kids; love 'em." - First-year head coach Deane Webb
