FISHERS, Ind. - Ohio Women's Golf completed the first day of competition at the 2012 Mid-American Conference Championships on Friday. Following the first round of play, Ohio sits in eighth place with a team score of 334.
Ball State currently holds the top spot, having shot a team score of 298 through the first round of play. Kent State is not far behind with a score of 301. The Golden Flashes had the day's best golfer, as Shamira Marshall shot a 72 after one round at the Hawthorns Golf and Country Club.
Kara Brinkmann (Middletown, Ohio) led the way for the Bobcats, shooting an 81. The sophomore is currently tied for 28th in the field of 45 golfers.
Not far behind her was Megan Weaver (Canton, Ohio) who ended the day tied for 32nd with a score of 83. Meryl Weaver (Canton, Ohio) and Kristen Helmsdoerfer (Westerville, Ohio) were Ohio's next two finishers, ending the day tied for 38th with one-round scores of 85.
Sarah Tranelli (Penfield, N.Y.) rounded out Ohio's participation in the first round of the tournament, shooting a 90. She is currently in 43rd place.
Ohio will begin the second day of competition at the Championships on Saturday morning. The `Cats will be paired up with golfers from Northern Illinois and Bowling Green and will tee off between 8:30 and 9:10 a.m.
