ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University baseball team (4-8) dropped game one of its three-game series with Oakland by a count of 9-2 on Friday.

Junior right-hander Seth Streich (Ridgeway, Pa.) suffered the loss as he worked 4.2 innings, allowed three earned runs and four hits. Oakland's Jeff Gorecki picked up the win after he tossed 6.0 innings, scattered seven hits and struck out four.

Offensively for the Bobcats, senior Jensen Painter continued to stay hot as he extended his hitting streak to seven games as he picked up his sixth double on the year. Painter has also reached base safely in all 12 games this season.

Freshman Logan Cozart (New Philadelphia, Ohio) also chipped in with a pair of hits, including his first collegiate home run.

As a team, Ohio outhit Oakland by an 8-6 count, but committed four errors in the loss.

Ohio got on the board first in the bottom half of the second inning thanks to a sacrifice fly to right field by sophomore Garrett Black (Lima, Ohio), which plated freshman Jake Madsen (Cincinnati, Ohio) from third. Madsen got on base following an error. He would later advance to third thanks to a double to center field by sophomore Kyle Dean (Athens, Ohio). Dean has gone 7-for-14 with two double in the last six games.

Oakland fought right back in the top half of third as it plated three runs on two hits to take a 3-1 lead. Ohio cut the lead to one thanks to Cozart's leadoff home run over the left field wall, but that would be as close as it would get for the remainder of the game.

The Grizzles would go on to score three runs in the fifth, two in the eight and one in the ninth to secure the win.

Russell Luxton came on to pitch for Oakland in the seventh. He worked three shutout innings, holding Ohio to just one hit as he picked up the save.

Ohio and Oakland return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. The Bobcats will send senior left-hander Brent Choban to the mound against Oakland's Brady Adamek.
