OXFORD, Ohio - Ohio Swimming and Diving competed hard in its final dual meet of the season at Miami on Saturday but couldn't quite pull out the victory, losing by a final score of 160-140. The `Cats ended their regular season with an impressive 9-2 record which includes a 4-1 mark in Mid-American Conference competition.
The RedHawks started off strong, picking up 13 points in the first event of the day. Miami claimed both the first and the third spots in the 200 medley relay. Laurin Williams (Shoreline, Wash.) was able to come up big in the next event, picking up first and the nine accompanying points in the 1000 freestyle, swimming a 10:11.38.
Emma Michaels (Findlay, Ohio) followed the lead of Williams in the next event of the day, taking first in the 200 freestyle in a brisk 1:51.31. Teammate Abby Corcoran (Tucson, Ariz.) was able to earn third place in the event as well, adding valuable points to Ohio's cause.
Miami began to pull away in the middle of the meet, taking the top spot in events six, seven, eight and nine. The RedHawks finished first in the 200 butterfly, the 50 freestyle, the one-meter diving competition and the 100 freestyle. Rachel Stearns was able to break up the streak momentarily, finishing first in the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:02.17.
The RedHawks finished the meet by taking the top spot in four of the final five events of the day, winning the 100 butterfly, the three-meter diving competition and the 400 freestyle relay. Despite finishing third from the three-meter board, Morgan Srail (Avon Lake, Ohio) put together six terrific dives, scoring a personal best 310.06. This is the third-best mark achieved in program history.
With Saturday's dual meet marking the end of the regular season, Ohio will next be in action at the MAC Championships from Feb. 23-25. The championships will be held in Akron, Ohio.
