Final Stats
Kent, Ohio - Ohio Volleyball used a balanced offensive attack to earn its third sweep of the 2011 MAC season, 25-18, 25-17, 25-21 at Kent State this evening. The Bobcats have now captured 20 sets in a row against league competition while winning their past nine contests against MAC teams.
Katie Post led the Green & White with 10 kills (.643 attack percentage) while Chelsea Bilger, Kelly Lamberti and Lexie Hartnett added six apiece. Post also paced Ohio with four blocks on the night with Hartnett and Faith Robins each chipping in with three.
Ohio trailed 12-10 in the first set before taking eight of the next nine points to gain an 18-13 lead. The Bobcats largest lead came at the end of the set when it took the final three points to win 25-18. Post was a perfect 3-for-3 on attacks and Lamberti also added three kills for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats used a 6-0 run in the second set to break a tie and go ahead 12-6. Leading 13-9, Ohio used a second six-point run to push the lead to double digits. Kent State would get as close as eight points the remainder of the way and the final margin reflected that with Ohio winning 25-17. Ohio hit a match-best .379 as six players registered kills to put the ‘Cats up 2-0.
The third set was nip-and-tuck throughout and with the score tied 17-17, Ohio seized the opportunity. Robins and Post combined on a block and Mollie Geske recorded consecutive aces, two of the team’s six for the match, to go ahead 20-17 and force a KSU timeout. After the Golden Flashes got within two, Post and Bilger recorded kills and Ohio went on to earn the win, 25-21. That same dynamic duo finished with eight kills in the set for the 'Cats.
This was the third match this season that Ohio had a hitting percentage over .300 (.308) and every time the Bobcats surpass the mark, they have swept their opponents (Marshall, Miami, Kent State).
Ohio has now won seven of its last eight against MAC foes away from the friendly confines of The Convo. The Bobcats also ran their winning streak to 20 matches against the Golden Flashes.
Ohio continues MAC play on the road Saturday night in Ypsilatini with a match at Eastern Michigan. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
