ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio Volleyball battled back late in the first set, hit .647 in the second set and coasted in the third set en route to a 27-25, 25-17, 25-15 sweep of Marshall this afternoon at the Baymont Invitational.

The Bobcats improved to 28-9 all-time against the Thundering Herd with the victory and hit a season-best .329 for the match. It was Ohio's first win in less than five sets this season as Marshall committed 15 service errors.

Ohio led by as many as five in the first set at 11-6 but Marshall would eventually even things at 13-13. Kills by Faith Robins and Lexie Hartnett along with a block by Kelly Lamberti gave Ohio back a small cushion at 18-15 but once again, Marshall rallied and pulled even at 22-22. The Herd continued to keep the Bobcats on edge, taking a 25-24 lead and seemed poised to win the first set.

However, a Robins kill evened things up before two Marshall errors handed the first set to the 'Cats, 27-25. Ohio finished with 17 kills in the set, four each by Hartnett and Robins. Bailey Karst also accumulated 12 of her match-high 28 assists during the initial frame.

Ohio fell behind in the second set 10-5 before rallying to even things 14-14 on a kill by Lamberti. That point came during a 6-0 run that pushed Ohio up 18-14 with Katie Post leading the charge. Leading 19-15, another four-point burst (two Ohio kills, two Ohio blocks) pushed the lead to eight and effectively ended the set as Ohio gained a 2-0 lead with a 25-17 win.

Ohio hit a season-best .647 in the set, racking up 12 kills on only 17 swings. The Green & White also notched three of their seven team blocks in the second set.

The Bobcats used a 10-1 run in the third set to turn a 6-4 deficit into a 14-7 lead. Ohio continued to widen the lead and eventually pushed it to double digits due to sloppy play by the Thundering Herd. Freshmen Liis Kullerkann closed things for the Green & White with a kill to win the match in straight sets.

The Bobcats will close the Baymont Invitational tomorrow against Virginia at 1 p.m.
