LEXINGTON, Ky. - Senior Toye Famodu (Bloomington, Minn.) scored her first goal of the year in the 88th minute, but the Ohio women's soccer team's comeback fell short in the squad's first road match of the season. The Bobcats fell to the Kentucky Wildcats 2-1 at the UK Soccer Complex on Friday evening.
Famodu finished an unassisted goal with 2:07 remaining in the match. She became the third different Bobcat to find the back of the net this season. Famodu leads the team with three points, and has notched at least one point in each of the last two matches.
Kentucky (3-0) scored a pair of goals in the opening stages of the second half to secure a 2-0 advantage. Kelsey Hunyadi netted her third goal of the year in the 46th minute, while Stuart Pope grew the lead to two goals 11:01 later.
In the match, Ohio (1-2) turned in seven shots, including three on goal. Seniors Kelsey Pichel (Rochester, Mich.) and Rachael Philpot (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the team with two shots a piece. Sophomore goalkeeper Mattie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio) made one save in goal.
The Bobcats will continue their three-match road trip next weekend. Ohio will travel to Huntington, W.Va., on Friday, Sept. 2, for a non-conference contest against Marshall. The opening touch is slated for 7 p.m.
